Top Scorers: Class of 2021

With no basketball going on right now, it’s time to look back at the top performers of this past season. We start by looking at the state’s top scorers from the class of 2021. While these numbers tell us who was successful last year, they also represent the players who look to be the state’s top scorers next season. So here at the best scorers in the soon to be senior class. [player_tooltip player_id="154521" first="Sidney" last="Argo"], Fleming County- Despite not being the most physically intimidating player on the court, Argo has the athleticism and skill to be a star. Despite only making 7 three-pointers this season, she used her speed to get to the bucket and ended up averaging a class high 23.7 points per game. While she has made more headlines for her softball play, Argo has plenty of ability on the basketball court as well. [player_tooltip player_id="31850" first="Harley" last="Paynter"], Boyd County- A do-it-all player, Paynter controlled Boyd County offense in a way that few players in the state could match. This resulted in her averaging 22 points a game, a feat especially impressive considering she also had the pressures of rebounding, playmaking, and defending for her team. With her versatility and ability to score from all levels, Paynter has as much basketball ability as anyone on this list. Jerrica Thacker, Jenkins- While the 21.8 points per game Thacker averaged this season was impressive, perhaps her greatest scoring accomplishment was her 61 point game against East Ridge in January. She made 10 threes in that game, one of several times this season that she caught fire from deep. Combined with solid scoring from other levels, Thacker’s 3 point shooting gives her explosive scoring ability that is hard to match. [player_tooltip player_id="31846" first="Brooklynn" last="Miles"], Franklin County- Our top-rated player in the class of 2021, it isn’t surprising to see Miles make this list. Her elite combination of athleticism and skills have cemented Miles’ spot as the top returning player in the state, as well leading her to an average of 21.7 points a game. Her skills will be further put to the test next season as she vies for Miss Basketball and tries to lead Franklin County back to Rupp. [player_tooltip player_id="31853" first="Macey" last="Blevins"], Wayne County- Another athletic wing, Blevins showed strong slashing ability as well as a nice jump shot. She averaged 21 points per game, she showed a nice touch on the inside to compliment the athleticism she needs to get to the rim in the first place. If she can continue to improve her outside shooting, Blevins has the ability to be one of the state’s top scorers going forward.
