Below is a list of the Top 5 Freshmen in the surrounding Madison area.
The five players below were chosen based on their skill level and the success they’ve already had for their teams. The talented players listed have high ceilings to be great players for the next three years. Each one of these players are already major prospects after just one year at the Varsity level.
Avree Antony Avree Antony 5'10" | SG Sun Prarie | 2023 State WI | 5’9 PG | Sun Prairie | LIR
An explosive guard who is super dynamic offensively. She has impressive handles off the dribble and she is confident far beyond the arc. Antony is an uptempo guard with a quick release to her mid range jumper. In a win over Janesville Parker, she scored 11 points. On defense, Antony will continue to improve her scrappy footwork. She’s a high pressure on-ball defender already, I’d watch for her to lead her team in steals next season. At 5’9 she uses her height well to grab rebounds over smaller guards. In a game against Madison LaFollette, she had 9 rebounds. Antony holds an offer from Illinois State and has interest from multiple big time programs in the midwest.
Antionique Auston Antionique Auston 5'8" | CG Sun Prarie | 2023 State WI | 5’8 CG | Sun Prairie | Flight Elite
Auston is a super athletic guard. She just has a great feel for the game and understands her role on the floor. She plays the game with a lot of swag. She has confidence shooting beyond the arc and can create a game for herself off the dribble. She finds her teammates well in transition and will certainly develop into a floor general for Sun Prairie. She sees the floor so well and I think that’s what makes her such a threat to her team. Not only can she find the shot for herself, she can make almost any pass to her open teammates. This season, Auston averaged 8.2 points per game for her team. In a game against a tough DeForest squad, Auston scored a season-high 17 points.
Megan Murphy Megan Murphy 5'6" | CG Verona | 2023 State WI | 5’6 CG | Verona | Wisconsin Impact
Murphy is a force on the court. She doesn’t shy away from contact and uses her body well to fight for position on both ends of the floor. A perimeter shooter for her team, Murphy made 61 three point baskets this season. She led her conference in three point shots made. Verona depends on Murphy defensively as well, as she is overall very scrappy. She hustles after loose balls and plays every possession until the whistle. Offensively, Murphy is patient and composed. She has a quick pull up jumper and a powerful attack at the rim. She can also score with poise in transition. This season she averaged 11.5 points per game. In a game against a tough Madison Memorial squad, Murphy scored a season-high 23 points.
Jaelyn Derlein Jaelyn Derlein 5'7" | CG DeForest | 2023 State WI | 5’7 CG | DeForest
Derlein is an offensive threat from multiple spots on the floor. She is confident shooting from beyond the arc as well as creating her own shot mid-range. Derlein will definitely improve her outside shooting range as well, she made 18 three pointers this season. She moves well without the basketball and uses her body well to get open. She’s developing into a good passer and I’d look for Derlein to take on more of a facilitator role next season. The freshman standout averaged 8.8 points per game for DeForest.
Marie Outlay | 5’9 SG | Sun Prairie | Flight Elite
An impressive shooting guard who can stretch the floor offensively. She has range far beyond the arc and a smooth shot to finish. A pure three point threat, Outlay has so much confidence getting her shot off. While Outlay thrives off a catch and shoot bucket, she can handle the ball and create a shot for herself as well. She led her team in three point shooting as a freshman this season. She can also attack the basket with composure and does a great job balancing her body at the rim. She averaged 7.3 points per game for Sun Prairie. She has put up big numbers all season long. In a game against Monona Grove, Outlay scored 19 points in the win.
