They entered the Non-Public B South state sectional tournament as one of the favorites. Trenton Catholic took down Rutgers Prep in the final game to take home a title.
In the state championship, Trenton Catholic was carried by their dynamic duo of freshman. Zoe Brooks Zoe Brooks 5'8" | CG St. John Vianney | 2023 State NJ controls the point guard position. Against Rutgers Prep, she finished with 13 points, five assists and six steals. Aaylah Del Rosario completely dominated with 19 points and 28 rebounds. This is nothing new for the duo.
Del Rosario is the top player in the Class of 2023 and is nationally ranked by ESPN. She averaged 11.8 points and 11.6 rebounds per game in her first season. She finished with 12 double-doubles including the first six games of her career. Del Rosario is already gaining national attention and for good reason. She is a dominant player on the post. She has complete control over the movements in her game. At 6’5, she has the size and athleticism at a young age to turn into something special.
Brooks is another phenomenon on the court. She averaged 13.5 points, 4.1 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 4.6 steals per game. Brooks is a do it all player on both ends. The duel-threat nature of her game comes from quickness and anticipation. Her basketball IQ is extremely high which helps her make the correct decisions. In most cases, talent can take over. Brooks is extremely quick with the ball in her hands and knows how to lead a break.
This is not a one year deal for the stars of Trenton Catholic. They have just completed their freshman season and have three more remaining. There is plenty of time for programs to catch an eye, if they have not already. The scary part is that both players will continue to improve and take their game to another level. Both Del Rosario and Brooks will be highly sought after prospects for the next three years of their career.
