Obviously, these regions will change into next season but for these stories it was the easiest way to divide players and teams as equally as possible.
We will be writing a series of three stories for each region in the state and the categories are as follows: 2023’s to put on Your Radar, 2022’s who can Breakout, and 2021’s Who Should be Valued by Colleges.
We will continue to go through each region and aim to hit as many players as we can that we haven’t talked about previously. Here are five 2021’s who should be valued by colleges.
Abby Reichter Abby Reichter 5'6" | PG North Fayette Valley | 2021 State IA – North Fayette Valley
As a junior, Abby Reichter Abby Reichter 5'6" | PG North Fayette Valley | 2021 State IA helped North Fayette Valley reach the regional quarterfinals before falling to Crestwood.
Reichter, who led the team in scoring at 14.5 points per game with three assists per night, is hoping for even more success as a senior.
She shot 38 percent from the field and knocked down 44 three-pointers for the TigerHawks, adding 99 rebounds, 68 steals and 64 assists.
Annika Headington Annika Headington 5'7" | SG Waukon | 2021 State IA – Waukon
Waukon finished third last year in the Northeast Iowa Conference and returns leader Annika Headington Annika Headington 5'7" | SG Waukon | 2021 State IA .
As a junior, Headington posted 12.6 points, 5.8 rebounds and 3.6 assists a night, all numbers that led the Indians. She finished with 290 total points, 133 boards and 82 assists, adding 64 steals and eight blocks.
Headington shot over 44 percent from the floor and 31 percent from the three-point line, sinking 16 triples. She also was strong at the charity stripe, converting 75 percent of the time.
Hope McDonald – New Hampton
New Hampton flirted with a winning record last winter, and behind returning Class of 2021 prospect Hope McDonald, the Chickasaws might achieve that goal this season.
McDonald tallied 200 points with 126 rebounds, 48 steals and 21 assists as a junior. She shot just under 50 percent from the field and 62 percent from the free throw line.
With several starters departing due to graduation, look for McDonald to become an even more consistent scorer for New Hampton.
Madalyn Heims – Anamosa
It was a tough season for Anamosa competing in the River Valley Conference, as they produced just three league wins.
However, they return leading scorer Madalyn Heims to the fold.
Heims scored 195 points as a junior, shooting 45 percent from the field. She also had 81 rebounds, 73 steals and 29 assists.
Her senior season could see even better production with an improvement from long-range after making just three triples and only converting on 49 percent of her free throw attempts.
Maci Sloane – Camanche
To become a competitive team in the coming year, Camanche will need even more out of Class of 2021’s Maci Sloane.
Last season, Sloane produced 21 blocks, which ranked among the lead for returning players in the region. She also scored 90 points with 101 rebounds, 17 steals and 15 blocks.
Camanche graduates leading scorer and rebounder, Tarah Wehde, leaving a void that Sloane could slide into. She made 41 percent of her shots last year and also got to the free throw line 36 times.
