Film Study: Tall, Physical, And Fierce Opponents On Varsity

Over the next few months leading up to the season we will be participating in several film study sessions to look in depth into some of the conferences across Iowa and their top players to see what they might be able to accomplish this upcoming season.    Below we highlight a group of prospects that are all tall (above 5'11), physical within their play-styles, and fierce as opponents on the Varsity level. They will be looking to keep things rolling after putting together rememberable Winters last season. Chloe Kock not only handled her own inside the lane last season for Carroll High School while bringing in Rebounds and scoring at Will - she also wasn't afraid to dish out as Assist or three from her Small Forward position. Kock has natural size standing between 5'11 and 6', she moves well for her size - more like a Guard but she isn't someone that wants to shy away from contact. She is A-Ok with getting hit, going to line, and knocking down a free throw attempt each time down the court if that's what the defense wants to do. This team should be taken over by Kock this Winter. She was playing next to her older sister last time around and because of that - she didn't lead her team in every positive statistical category throughout the year but this season is going to be a different story.     Kaylor Johnson is another 5'11 SF, that showed up each time she competed last Winter as a Sophomore for Ballard High School. Johnson was a starter all season long and she was the player who did all of their work in the middle. She was their top rebounding threat by a mile and she mainly did her work in-between the blocks offensively. She did demonstrate the willingness to extend the floor by taking 31 three point attempts on the year but that wasn't her go-to or something that they could rely on when it mattered. She went to the free throw line 4-6 times a contest and that helped set the tone when things would get too sped up for their liking but she was definitely at her best moving into spaces off of other players creation off the dribble. If Ballard wants to compete for a conference title this Winter Johnson is going to have to lead the charge. She checks off some boxes that college evaluators have already but she will need to keep progressing if they want to make a deep Playoff run over these next couple of seasons as a group.     As the season pushed onwards last year, Brailee Bremer started to prove more and more that she has a productive role on this Woodbury Central High School team. Bremer is one of the more efficient offensive Forwards out of the 2028 Class in Iowa. She isn't the type that you would call an offensive juggernaut. She takes her time, she makes evert 4.5 out of 10 attempts near the bucket and she is a steady rebounder that opponents have to pay attention too. If they leave her by herself, she will have a career setting day by halftime against some opponents. I'm excited to see how Bremer is going to follow things up over the next eight months. If she plays with confidence, there aren't going to be many that can stand in her way from having some impressive outings.     Several college coaching staff in the Midwest at the D2, D3, NAIA, and Juco levels should be keeping an eye on Melanie Pfab of Dubuque High School because of her combination of size, skill, smarts, and future potential within this sport. Pfab is still a little raw within the game overall but she plays with good intent and she has intangibles that everyone look for. If she can continue to build a solid foundation and she helps her team win some more contests this Winter, it's going to set her up for some success down the line as a Senior when looking at her collegiate options.     Standing at 6'1. 70% from the charity stripe. 12.7 PPG - 9.8 RPG to help her MMCRU team to a 13-10 record as a Junior. Chloe Alesch is one of the taller and more coordinated players that the War Eagle Conference possesses. She isn't about the glory or the fame. She wants to take the court, kill her opponent and help her team win, and then repeat that process over and over again. We could see Alesch end things on a high note this Winter if she can put together an even better season than in year's past. She has a lot of skill for her height and she seems to be getting smarter as she gets older so it's not crazy to think that she might be someone we hear about at the next level one day as well.
