The Class of 2021 is on the verge of becoming seniors and taking over the basketball scene. They began to do so as juniors. Here are the stat leaders from the 2019-2020 season in the 2021 class.
<strong>Points: [player_tooltip player_id="134615" first="Colleen" last="McQuillen"] | Cresskill</strong>
No surprise here. McQuillen finished with 737 points and an average of 25.1 per game. She went for 20 or more points in 21 of 29 games. This includes nine 30-point performances and a 41-point outburst in a close loss to Paramus Catholic. McQuillen knocked down 65 three’s and got to the free throw line at will. She will enter her final season as the favorite to lead the state in points.
<strong>Rebounds: Diamonique Williams | Shabazz</strong>
Williams set the tone her for junior year with two 20 rebound games early in the year. She led the class with 15.6 rebounds per game for Shabazz. Williams is strong in the post and knows how to gain position. Her instincts are top-notch when the ball is in the air. This allows her to gain an edge on her defender immediately.
<strong>Assists: [player_tooltip player_id="134613" first="Caitlyn" last="Decker"] | Red Bank Regional</strong>
Decker finished sixth overall in the state with 6.6 assists per contest. She dished out 173 total and had four games in double-figures. Decker was dynamic with the ball in her hands. She could get in the lane and score or find her teammates in great position.
<strong>Blocks: [player_tooltip player_id="159450" first="Maddison" last="Vaughn"] | Roselle</strong>
Vaughn was a complete rim protector during her junior year. She finished fourth in the state with 4.8 blocks per game. She had two triple-doubles this season in games against Roselle Catholic and Somerset Tech. In those games, Vaughn finished with 12 and 11 blocks.
<strong>Steals: Emily Alers-Gonzalez | Newark East Side</strong>
Gonzalez wasted no time putting her name in as one of the top thieves in the state. She finished with 13 games in the season opener and set a season-high of 16 just five games later. She was second in the state with seven steals per game. This is because of her quick hands on the perimeter. Gonzalez knew how to jump passes and get in the lane.
<strong>Three-Pointers Made: Jessica Riepe | Marlboro</strong>
Riepe finished as the top shooter in the junior class and was second overall in the state. She knocked down 97 three’s for an average of 3.4 per game. She has a quick release ad unlimited range from deep. It is scary to think what she will do as a senior for Marlboro.
