Freshman I believe are very important on a high school basketball team because there is always room to enhance their performance. Not only that they have the desire to prove themselves on their teams, and that allows them to work hard and make a long-lasting impression on their coaches.
Here is a list of talented and skilled players that had a successful freshman season:
Dymonique Maxie Dymonique Maxie 5'7" | PG Moreau Catholic HS | 2023 State CA – 2023, 5”7’, PG & SG, #10, Moreau Catholic High School (Hayward, CA)
Wow, this is the first words that came out of my mouth while witnessing Dymonique in action. Dymonique is a captain on her high school varsity team of Moreau Catholic high school, and she is only a freshman. She helped lead her team to a CIF North Coast Section D3 Championship. That’s right you heard me, a freshman. You don’t see many freshman captains out there. Dymonique averages 15.1 PPG and has scored 422 total points to date for the 2019-202 season. Other stats include 5.6 RPG, and 4.0 SPG. Maxis is quick, athletic, and intense. She is very aggressive on offense and defense, and it shows on the court. Maxie is very confident taking on players to the basket, in fact, she does it constantly. Dymonique’s physicality is phenomenal, and she is a very hard player to guard. Even top-notch players have difficulty guarding her. Her strength is driving to the basket. Maxie can be a very intimidating player, and I would love to see Dymonique in action in her upcoming high school seasons.
Deadriana Prim- 2023, 5”11’, Guard, #1, Pinole Valley High School (Pinole, CA)
Deadriana Prim is tall, and hard to guard. Even though she is tall, she has the ability to drive to the basket with ease. Prim assisted her team in winning the Tri-City Athletic League Rock Division championship for the 2019-2020 season. Her touch around the basket is amazing, she can score anytime she is near the basket. Prim averages 14.8 PPG, with a total of 443 points to date for the 2019-2020 season. Deadriana’s FG% is 57%, and she averages 9.7 RPG. Not only does Prim do the work on the offensive end, but the defensive end as well. She is the best of both worlds. She has a strong presence under the basket on both ends of the court. Prim is a very hard person to guard because of her towering height. She has a long wingspan which definitely helps her ability to score over others and plays outstanding defense. Deadriana has lots of room for improvement, and I’m excited to see what’s in store for her during the rest of her high school career. I have no doubt that Deadriana will be successful.
Peyton Holcomb- 2023, Guard & PF, #25, Benicia High School (Benicia, CA)
Peyton is a very skilled basketball player, and you can tell she not only puts in the work during practice. Peyton uses her own free time to better her skills. Holcomb averages 13.1 PPG and has a total of 327 points to date for the 2019-2020 season. She also averages 11.9 RPG, this is very impressive. Holcomb works very hard to get defensive rebounds for her team. Not only does she work hard on the defensive end, but she also works hard on the offensive end as well. Peyton has adequate moves to the basket. Her dribbling ability is outstanding, and as I said before you can tell she practices outside of games. She dribbles the ball with authority. Holcomb is able to take on most players and applies multiple dribbling moves, she is a playmaker. Peyton Holcomb is a very hard player to defend, and I only see her developing her skills from here.
Saulele Tanuvasa- 2023, 5”11’, SG & PF, #23, St. Bernard’s High School (Eureka, CA)
Saulele Tanuvasa is a powerful player. She works hard, and you can see that she is passionate about her performance. Saulele is attentive on defense and is always looking to grab a steal from the opposite team. Tanuvasa averages 18.1 PPG and 8.0 RPG. Her confidence to score around the basket is remarkable. She can break the press with ease and defenders are no match for her ability to score. There are lots of opportunities for Saulele to improve, and she is a very coachable player. You can see that she is mentally tough on the court, and doesn’t allow for much distraction in the game. As a freshman, she is the star on her team, and will no doubt go far in her high school career. I am excited to watch her develop her game.
