While we are working toward a return to play, this month will take a look at Southeast Ohio and some of the top players.
Today, a first look at some of the key 2021 players to watch this season.
Morgan Altenburger, 5-9 Marietta
Has a good eye for the ball, solid on the offensive glass. Athletic off-guard with the ability to score off a second chance for her team. On the offensive end, she isn’t afraid to pull the trigger from beyond the arc, has a good shot and release. Scrappy player who gets after it, can keep possession for her team with her hustle and aggressiveness. Solid defender, can create and cause turnovers. A first-team D1 all-district player.
Kenzie McConnell, 6-0 Circleville
Kenzie received a lot of honors her junior season including SE Ohio D2 Player of the Year. She is a strong physical forward with good footwork, is strong around the rim and can play north-south very well in a transition style of game. Has the ability to finish around the rim, one of the most underrated players in Ohio. Has good hands, can create her shot and make things happen for her team.
Hannah Jacks, 5-9 Bidwell River Valley
Long athletic small forward who can create and force turnovers with her quick hands and anticipation off the ball. Good handles, has good range and a good pull-up perimeter shooter. Can elevate above the defender and shoot with accuracy. Loves to push the ball in transition, can finish at the rim and play vs physical defender.
Zoiee Smith, 5-6 Waverly
Loves to play in transition, can get to the rim and score. A very good passer on the move, sees the floor well and makes the right pass. Physical player who can play through contact. Always around the ball, deflects and can create turnovers. Good handles, smart basketball IQ.
Kyla Burchett, 5-2 Greenfield McClain
A first-team all-district selection, this fiery shooting guard does a lot to help her team. Defensively, she is a solid on-ball defender and is able to create havoc and force turnovers with her quick hands. Can push the ball up court in transition with good handles. Solid three-point threat.
