This series will take a look at some lesser-known players from smaller schools across Kentucky that have or will tear it up at the varsity level. You might not be able to find their hometown on a map, but that hasn’t stopped them from making a name for themselves.
[player_tooltip player_id="164409" first="Kaliana" last="Richardson"], Caverna (2023) - Only a Sophomore, Kaliana led her school in almost every statistic this past season and is going to end up scoring multiple thousands of points before her career is over.
[player_tooltip player_id="31892" first="Briante" last="Gowdy"], Campbellsville (2022) - A volume scorer, Gowdy is a top 30 prospect in the 2022 class with the potential to move way up the list before graduation in a couple years.
[player_tooltip player_id="154500" first="Kylie" last="Jackson"], Green County (2021) - A versatile scorer who should be on college radars, Jackson is one of the best players in Kentucky at getting to the free throw line, averaging 6 makes per game.
[player_tooltip player_id="157951" first="Tanlee" last="Hudgins"], Green County (2022) - A highly efficient scorer at 57% from the field as a Sophomore, Hudgins put up 13 points and 7 rebounds per game as a Sophomore and will just keep getting better.
[player_tooltip player_id="36208" first="Ella" last="Thompson"], Bethlehem (2021) - Likely the best player in the 5th region in the 2021 class, Ella does a little bit of everything and leads Bethlehem in almost every statistical category.
[player_tooltip player_id="88437" first="Amelia" last="Hodges"], Bethlehem (2021) - Not far behind her teammate as best player in the region, Hodges and Thompson form one of the best 1-2 punches in the state.
Tamiah Wadlington, Shawnee (2025) - Admittedly, I’d never heard of Tamiah until researching this article. Averaging 22 points per game is impressive for anyone, much less a 7th grader.
[player_tooltip player_id="157974" first="Callie" last="Wiegandt"], Holy Cross (2022) - An 11 point per game scorer in her Sophomore year, Callie helped lead her team to a 15 win season.
[player_tooltip player_id="157950" first="Peyton" last="Nauert"], Presentation (2022) - A volume scorer who is also a good rebounder, Peyton helped Presentation get to the finals of the 6th region All A before losing the title game.
[player_tooltip player_id="164405" first="Ellie" last="Heid"], Portland Christian (2023) - One of the leading scorers in the state as a freshman, Heid led her team to one of the most successful seasons in recent school history.
Ella Kate Porter, Portland Christian (2023) - A quality second scorer next to Heid, Ella Kate averaged over 15 points per game as a freshman and will have even bigger numbers as she becomes a better finisher through contact.
