Below is a program preview for the national Team Wisconsin select team for the class of 2023. The team is coached by Cade Murray.
#2 Maggie Criswell | 5’6 G | Waukon High School, IA | 2023
Maggie played a heavy point guard role for a 15-9 overall Waukon team, who plays in the Northeast Iowa Conference. Maggie brings energy and has a strong presence on the floor, being able to control the flow of the game. She has great vision and ability to find open teammates, as well as shoot the 3 and score in the paint. Maggie is someone I can coach with ease, and her ability to also play the shooting guard role gives great flexibility in our team’s offense. She is ranked #33 in her class for Iowa.
#3 Abby Thompson Abby Thompson 5'6" | CG Blair- Taylor | 2023 WI | 5’6 G | Blair-Taylor High School | 2023
Abby was second on her team in scoring, averaging 14.8 PPG. She is a great 2 guard that can score at will. Abby shines in her 3-point shooting, as she has a quick trigger and can let go from range when she wants to. Abby also earned first team all-conference honors in the Dairyland and took her team to overtime against state-bound Bangor in the Regional Final with clutch 3-point shooting. Abby is also extremely quick and has a great ability to pull up into the lane or finish through contact.
#11 Isabelle Schmidt | 6’0 PF | Rice Lake High School | 2023
Isabelle is a solid post player and excellent Center. She is strong and has a variety of post moves in her arsenal and has proven to be getting better and stronger playing in the Big Rivers conference. She is also able to handle the ball and can rebound well. Isabelle has excellent vision in the post, with being able to survey while posted up and find cutters and open shooters, or score.
#12 Lindsay Steien Lindsay Steien 5'9" | CG Blair- Taylor | 2023 State WI | 5’9 PG | Blair-Taylor High School | 2023
Lindsay is a standout point guard with incredible ball handling and scoring ability. Lindsay is able to find open teammates, pass well, and score effectively, all while taking care of the basketball and having excellent IQ. Leading Blair-Taylor in scoring at 19.2 PPG, Lindsay also earned first team all-conference honors in the Dairyland. Lindsay is also incredibly quick and is hard to keep up with, having quick crossovers and being able to push the ball up the floor extremely fast.
#14 Miah Breheim | 5’6 PG | Alma Center Lincoln High School | 2023
Miah is a well-rounded guard, with excellent court vision. Miah can handle the ball well and has a great scoring ability. Miah is also very versatile in where she can play, being very viable in a 5-out or 4 out 1 in offense. Miah also benefits from playing in the Dairyland-Large conference, who has great talent in Melrose-Mindoro and Eleva-Strum, and because of that has developed into a great player. Miah is very tough to guard 1 on 1 in the open floor.
#15 Lily Truchon | 5’10 F | South Shore High School | 2023
Lily is an outstanding forward that plays a vital role for South Shore. She is very lengthy and controls the flow of the game quite well. She has a great ability in being able to get to the basket and can find open teammates well. Lily is also one of our top defenders and has enough athletic ability to matchup with smaller guards and give them trouble in full-court pressure. Lily also earned honorable mention in the Indianhead Conference this past season.
#22 Kierstyn Kindschy | 5’8 SG | Blair-Taylor High School | 2023
Kierstyn is lengthy, and that gives her an ability to score in the paint and be a great defender. Kierstyn also has a great 3-point set shot and is a great energy player for us. Her length helps give us an advantage on defense. She also has a great ability to be versatile and play her where needed in any offense.
#30 Nora Tucker | 5’7 G | Bangor High School | 2023
Nora has great hustle and work ethic. She is impossible to tire out. Nora has a fantastic ability to get into the paint and score and can also shoot the 3 as well. She also is one of the hardest workers on defense. Nora played a vital role for state-bound Bangor this past season, and even started part of the year for the Cardinals. Although she did not receive any all-conference honors from the Scenic Bluffs, she helped the Cardinals capture a conference championship against a load of talent.
#32 Braylee Hyatt | 5’8 G | Cashton High School | 2023
Despite being 6-man for the Cashton Eagles, Braylee was second on her team in scoring, with 11.6 PPG. Braylee’s ability to get to the rim and score is incredible, and to top it off she is great defender that can hang with some of Division 5’s best. Braylee is another player who brings hustle and energy to the team when on the floor. She is very hard to defend due to her athletic ability and quick first step, allowing her to catch her defenders off guard to get to the rim.
#33 Eleice Dahl | 5’8 G | Osseo-Fairchild High School | 2023
Eleice is a great guard with an excellent ability to see the floor and defend. She is able to find open teammates and distribute the ball incredibly well for Osseo-Fairchild. She can attack the basket at any moment and has fantastic ability to play through contact. She can anticipate on defense, which leads to steals and scores on the other end.
#44 Emma Mann | 5’7 G | Cochrane-Fountain City High School | 2024
Emma being an age younger can still compete with high level talent in the age group above her. Emma was the main player on her team this past season and has a great ability to score the ball and find open teammates. Emma is also able to defend well, and fits in great with the talent that surrounds her. Emma is not scared to step up and play a big role, which I have no doubt she can do for our team when needed.
Team Strengths: Cade’s team is guard-heavy for sure. They can play up tempo and handle the ball incredibly well and can use their lengthy guards and center to play with a little more size. They can knock down the 3-ball and can attack the paint really well. With great depth, Team Wisconsin can pressure the ball at all times and cause turnovers and chaos for opposing teams. These girls are determined to use AAU to get better and develop into dangerous players come school ball season.
Team Weaknesses: Rebounding will be an issue against teams with more size. Coach Cade suggests that team chemistry is also something that will need to get built up as the season progresses, as many of these girls have not played together in the past, however they have built up great relationships as many of them play against each other once or twice a year.
