Top Returners: Badger North The Badger North conference is full of hard working teams that thrive off their defensive abilities and impressive fundamentals on offense. Leading the conference last season was Beaver Dam. The team finished undefeated in conference play with a 14-0 record. Second in the Badger North was a tough DeForest squad that finished with 12-2. The six other teams in the conference include Waunakee, Reedsburg, Mount Horeb, Sauk Prairie, Baraboo and Portage. Below is a list of five players who have had big seasons so far and are the top returning players that will impact this summer and next season. 1. [player_tooltip player_id="132341" first="Matyson" last="Wilke"] | Beaver Dam | 5’10 PG | Junior Wilke is a player you’ll hear so much about until her last minutes on the court for Beaver Dam. She’s been an impact player the past three years and improves aspects of her game each season. A high major Division 1 recruit, Wilke has a rare combination of size and skill. She’s an offensive powerhouse with an extremely high basketball IQ. The junior averaged 16.7 points this season for her team. She currently holds over 15 Division 1 offers. A fierce rebounder as well, Wilke finished her junior year averaging 8 boards per game. She plays summer basketball with North Tartan EYBL. 2. Mahra Weiman | Reedsburg | 5’10 G | Sophomore The sophomore led the Badger North conference in scoring this season. A long guard who can play multiple positions on the floor, Weiman is versatile and precise. She doesn’t force anything on offense and has a good feel for her shooting pockets. She’s effective from mid range but developed into a perimeter shooter for Reedsburg this season. She sophomore finished with 35 made perimeter baskets. The offensive standout averaged 20 points per game for Reedsburg. 3. [player_tooltip player_id="155760" first="Naomi" last="Breunig"] | Sauk Prairie | 5’10 G | Junior The junior led her team in scoring this season and became a floor general for her squad. She takes control on the court and does a fantastic job playing to her tempo. She isn’t frazzled by high pressure defense and at 5’10 has impressive handles. She plays a guard for her team but could easily be a dominant post presence as well. She averaged 18 points per game this season. With multiple standout games, Breunig proved she can take over at any given moment. She finished second in scoring for her conference. In a game against Portage, Breunig scored a season-high 28 points. 4. [player_tooltip player_id="155759" first="Julia" last="Magnuson"] | Mount Horeb | 6’0 F | Junior Magnuson makes for a super fun player to watch compete. She does a great job of balancing her body at the basket and using her size to shoot over defenders. She’s developed her shooting arc as well and wouldn’t be surprised if she becomes a confident three point shooter this summer and next season. She is extremely effective off rebound put backs and playing with her back to the basket. She averaged 14.8 points per game during her junior campaign. 5. [player_tooltip player_id="132356" first="Natalie" last="Jens"] | Beaver Dam | 5’7 G | Junior A great floor general for her team, Jens will be the go-to player to lead the offense during her senior season. She has a great feel for the game and does a crafty job at passing to her teammates. She’s a selfless player and a pass first guard. She does a good job drawing the defense and using her handles to keep the tempo. She had over 50 assists this season. Jens can also be looked to for buckets as she is a scoring threat as well. She averaged 13.8 points per game for Beaver Dam. Jens currently holds offers from Michigan Tech and Minnesota State.
