Depending on a player's circumstances at the high school level, whether that be older players in their position, needing improvement, not being ready for the varsity level, or whatever the case may be, not every underclassman is ready for varsity basketball in their first season of high school basketball, and that is okay. In my five years, I have seen JV players earn scholarships, start in state title games, and earn All-Conference recognition at the college level in their Freshman season. Events like this are where some players who may have had significant roles start to show what they can do on the floor in a setting where I can see them play extended minutes, which is why I love events like this one. That said, let's look at some young prospects who will be ones to watch for the future.

Few kids come out of nowhere like OImstead did in her first season of high school basketball. The Lancaster native wasn't a player who came from a traditional talent hotbed in Wisconsin or played for one of the traditional powers on the grassroots scene. The impressive 2029 prospect plays for Team Compete and can do things most kids in the state can't. The athletic tools Olmstead will likely lead to her winning or, at the bare minimum, competing for a State High Jump crown this Spring. Olmstead led her Flying Arrows team to a Regional Title for the first time in about two decades, and was one of the top-ten scorers in the state, and she's still far from where her ceiling could be.

The Oak Creek wing had a productive first season of basketball with the Knights. Paldrmic would play a role on a team with established talent and would find a way to express herself within that role. She is a confident player who doesn't hesitate with the ball in her hands, and she showed she could be a difference-maker against older players at the high school level. I'm excited to see what she can do in a setting where she will have a more prominent role.

There may not be a player in Wisconsin's 2029 class who plays the game as smoothly as [player_tooltip player_id='1264437' first='Kinley' last='Peterson']. The Fox Valley Lutheran guard doesn't need to blow by defenders to get by them. She has a solid change of pace, controls the ball under pressure, and reads the game at a high level. She plays at her own pace and refuses to let defenses speed her up. In a setting like grassroots basketball, where most teams press, I'm excited to see her look to pick defenses apart and generate open looks in semi-transition.

There are always a few players in every class who I enjoy watching because of the effort they bring to the floor, and Dean may be one of those players. She is a double-double threat whenever she's on the floor, and she may rarely get a set run for her when she's on the floor. The hustle and edge she brings to the floor will allow her team to punch above their weight, due to the extra possessions Dean can give her unit.
