Why You Should know North Augusta High School

Why You Should know North Augusta High School

North Augusta girls basketball program has accomplished what very few teams can; winning 4 state championships in a row. They have been lead by their 2 stellar seniors in [player_tooltip player_id="124061" first="Tyliah" last="Burns"] (a Winston Salem State signee) and [player_tooltip player_id="124054" first="J’Mani" last="Ingram"] (a Winthrop signee). But they are leaving a young class also full of talent. Here is who you should know returning to North Augusta next season: [player_tooltip player_id="185422" first="Zuri" last="Goldsberry"]: The 5’6 point guard (class of 2023) plays more like she is 5’8 with her long, athletic frame. She is active on both ends of the floor. Defensively she is all over the court due to her length, she gets easy steals and deflections, and even can block and alter shots on the perimeter. Offensively she pushes the tempo, she wants to get out and run. She can shoot the 3 ball, but it wasn’t what her team needed her to do this last season. She is a high IQ player who sees the court and overall makes good decisions with the ball in her hands. She will develop into something special over the next 3 seasons. She plays AAU for the SC 76ers organization. [player_tooltip player_id="172180" first="Kiana" last="Lee"]: The 5’8 forward (class of 2021) has a college build already. She is strong, athletic, runs the floor well, and overall tough. Barely missing on averaging a double-double this last season, she posted 12 this season, including ending the season on a 5 game stretch. She shoots the 3 ball consistently enough to where you have to guard her from there, otherwise she is just going to put it on the deck and get to the paint with ease. On top of that, she loves to share the ball, averaging right at 4 assists per game, including 2 triple-doubles on the year (points, rebounds, assists). Defensively she can keep guards in front of her, and is tough enough to battle against bigger forwards. She will make a great grab for someone. P’eris Smith: The 6’2 center (class of 2023) has been playing varsity since her 8th grade year. An all-region selection this last season, the young center has tremendous upside. She was just shy of averaging a double-double herself, averaging right at 9 points per game, and 8 rebounds. She finishes well around the basket, and does a decent job of keeping the ball high once she gets it. She is comfortable putting it on the floor if it is passed ahead to her on a fast break (not your first option but she is capable of doing it). She is a rim protector averaging almost 2 blocks per game, and altering a handful of others. She is smart about it too, not fouling out of a single game all season. She plays AAU for the Palmetto 76ers organization. Arin Moore: The 6’1 center (class of 2022) is more of a true bruiser in the paint. She is a bigger body, can finish through the contact, and put people on the floor type of post player. Grabbing 4 points and boards per game this last season is major improvement from her freshman season, where she was still learning the ropes. She is a fast learner, coachable, and has good experience going into her final 2 seasons to become a real leader and impact player.
