The NYG Hoops event featured a middle school division for 2024 and 2025 players as well as a high school division. Players came from all over the East Coast and down south and put on a fairly rust-free performance considering the circumstances. Here is a look at some more standouts from the event.
Dayshawna Carter, 2021, South Shore High
I enjoyed watching Ms. Carter compete. She dove for loose balls, broke some ankles with her tricky dribbling, stopped on a dime and made pull up jumpers and did not take any plays off. She can definitely score the ball in a variety of ways and she’s just fun to watch. She goes hard on defense too and has a knack for coming up with steals and loose balls. Looking forward to seeing her again.
Cire Worley, 2023, Abington High
Cire was the first player to catch my eye in the event. She has decent speed and great length at 5’11”. She drained a couple of jumpers from 3 point range and showed off some nice slashing ability. She used her length well on defense and was able to keep people in front of her.
Bria Beverly, 2021, Dallastown Area High
College coaches looking for a shooter should definitely check out Ms. Beverly. She’s about 5’10” or so and is definitely not shy about launching shots from long range. She has good size and looked comfortable handling the ball in traffic.
Aisha Dabo, 2021, Forsyth Central High
Aisha has committed to UMASS and was one of the best players in the showcase. Her size, strength and athleticism separated her from most of her peers. She passes the eye test as soon as you walk in the gym and her performance did not disappoint. She’s explosive but plays at a measured pace on both ends without a lot of wasted motion. She showed off her 3 point range and muscled her way into the paint. When she felt like clamping down on defense she was able to thwart all attacks.
Makenzie Williams, 2024, Columbia High
Very talented post player that is still a bit raw and just scratching the surface. At 6’4″ she is very agile and moves well. She is strong and could not be defended by one player. Nice soft touch in the paint and is a solid defender. Big time potential.
