A list of “playmakers” that have stood out this Grassroots season. Being a playmaker is essential in any team’s success. A playmaker controls the flow of the offense and is heavily involved in passing moves that lead to points.
Playmakers also know how to create a shot for themselves. Each one of these players below have shown they do just that along with their talented on-court vision, technique, ball control and creativity.
Julianna Ouimette Julianna Ouimette 5'9" | CG Lakeland | 2023 State WI | G | Flight Elite | 2023
Ouimette’s slashing ability is phenomenal. She attacks the rim so aggressively while still maintaining balance to finish composed at the basket. She’s added a sweet floater that is almost impossible to stop. Her handles are elite- creating a play for herself is simply effortless. She does well finding her teammates in the open court and dishing off to her post players within the offense. With so much focus on Ouimette she has become a great facilitator for her Flight Elite squad.
Ashlyn Yow Ashlyn Yow 5'6" | PG Waukesha West | 2022 State WI | PG | WI Shooters | 2022
Yow executes the offense for her team so well. She is calm with the ball and has patience waiting for her teammates to get to the correct spot. She commands attention with the ball and even without. Her impressive feel for the game allows her to make plays without having the ball in her hands. A hard screener with great footwork, Yow can get herself open or her teammates for an open shot.
Maci Meyer Maci Meyer 5'9" | CG Hartford | 2021 State WI | G | Flight Elite | 2021
A steady guard who can handle pressure offensively, Meyer does a great job of creating the appropriate open shot for her teammates. She has good on-court vision and uses her crafty handles to help get her teammates open. She has a great drive and kick that finds her teammates open on the perimeter. Meyer can create a game for herself too by attacking the open games.
Alexis McNack Alexis McNack 5'9" | PG Milwaukee Lutheran | 2021 State WI | PG | WI Shooters | 2021
An impressive point guard who is extremely versatile. McNack can make plays for her teammates and has a good eye for threading the needle. Her passing skills are elite and she does well feeding the post. However, McNack is most impressive when making the play for herself. Her ability to attack off the first step and finish against contact makes her so difficult to stop. She knows how to put herself in the right position to score big numbers each game.
Megan Schuman Megan Schuman 6'0" | SF Brillion | 2023 State WI | G | Purple Aces | 2023
Another guard who is dynamic on the floor, Schuman is extremely athletic and has so much agility to her game. She gets up and down the floor well and her passing eye in transition is tremendous. She uses both an effective bounce pass and overhead pass to find her teammates in the open court and is very successful doing such. A floor general on this Purple Aces squad, Schuman seems comfortable getting her teammates involved. She will knock it down and attack the lane if taken lightly by defense as well.
Maya White Eagle Maya White Eagle 5'7" | CG Madison Memorial | 2021 State WI | G | Flight Elite | 2021
An impact playmaker without a doubt is White- Eagle. She plays with high tempo, pace and intensity on the floor. Her energy is contagious to her teammates. She makes her teammates better. A true point guard, White Eagle does well setting up the offense and finding the open man. She can certainly be a scoring threat with her ability to attack the lane and shoot from beyond the arc- but her passing is most elite. She utilizes the bounce pass often and well. She has a great feel for the game and oftentimes makes the no-look or highlight pass.
Amaya Bridgewater | G | Bridgewater Elite
Bridgewater does it all when she is on the floor. An offensive specialist who can score from anywhere on the court and rebound, Bridgewater has sparked a lot of attention this summer. Her defense is elite for her size as well- she has great footwork and is quick to deflect and grab steals. Her passing shouldn’t go unnoticed as she dishes multiple assists per game. She does a tremendous job driving and kicking to her open teammate and using her impressive ball handling skills to wait until her teammate is in their shooting spot.
Naomi Breunig Naomi Breunig 5'10" | CG Sauk Prairie | 2021 State WI | G | Wisconsin Elite | 2021
Known for her scoring ability, quick first step to the basket and smooth release to her shot- Breunig’s playmaking ability shouldn’t be taken lightly. The offense simply runs through her. She sets the tone and is always in the right spot. Her spacing without the ball is noticeable and her communication to teammates is fantastic. She’s always pointing or talking out where her teammate should move and it really helps the flow of the offense. She does well dishing into her inside players as well as finding her open shooter in transition.
Felicity Figlinski | G | WI Blaze | 2023
Figlinski is just scratching the surface for how talented of a playmaker she will become. Her on-court vision is excellent. She has great size for her position and is quick off the ball as well. She does a tremendous job of reading the defender- making her an elite playmaker already. She reads the defense so well and makes just the right pass or takes the smart shot. She moves well with the basketball and is patient before forcing anything inside.
Alayna Suprenand | PG | Barium | 2021
A fantastic floor general for both her high school and Barium squad, Suprenand continues to impress with the ball in her hands. She’s confident with the ball and a real floor general. She is fantastic on defense and plays with high intensity and intelligence. Her playmaking skills are shown on defense as she has a great read for the steal and deflecting passes. She thrives in the open court and can really create for herself at the rim. She does well creating space to knock down the perimeter shot as well. A thread the needle type passer as well the Barium guard finds her teammates open before they even know that they are.
