In the last game of pool play, the Stars had a game against a tough Minnesota Nike EYBL team in which the team got out to a slow start and could not quite get their footing. They were lethargic from the start and couldn’t garner the momentum until the second half which was too late for any sort of comeback. Audrey Roden Audrey Roden 5'9" | SG West Linn | 2021 State OR looked to try to get them within striking distance with several three attempts in the second half, but her shot was simply not going down. Despite this, the guard did not let up defensively, as she hounded down her opposition and kept creating looks for herself at the basket. Roden finished with 10 points and 3 rebounds and she was still amongst scoring leaders. Addison Wedin Addison Wedin 5'11" | PG La Salle | 2021 State OR , the talented three-level scorer finally got loose and comfortable out there as she drained two three-pointers out there for a total of 8 points. Aaronette Vonleh Aaronette Vonleh 6'3" | C West Linn | 2021 State #76 Nation OR had a total of 2 for the Stars as her presence and offensive output was missed whereas Donovyn Hunter Donovyn Hunter 5'10" | PG South Medford | 2023 State #26 Nation OR sank a triple for a total of 3. Marley Langi Marley Langi 6'0" | SF Archbishop Mitty | 2021 State CA provided moments of stability as well as Lepolo, but as the buzzer sounded it was too late. Stars 51, North Tartan 60.
NW Blazers Orange 17U
In their first game of bracket play, Nike TOC Iowa was treated to a treat as two of the top teams in the Northwest faced off in a bit of a rivalry game. The NW Orange Blazers have been of late a power in the Adidas Gauntlet as well as Donovyn Hunter Donovyn Hunter 5'10" | PG South Medford | 2023 State #26 Nation OR ’s old program. They showcase the skills of Trinity Slocum, young sister of former Oregon State player Destiny Slocum. Trinity Slocum is as much of a ballhawk as her older sister, as she has tight handles to go with her overall scoring savviness topped with a nice shooting stroke. Brooklyn Rewers is a big post who commands a lot of presence in the post due to her sheer size and was a force to be reckoned with during the game. Due to some technical difficulties, the stream was unavailable until the latter of the second half – however, the game was one for the books. In the second half, the Stars surged as they were hitting from all cylinders. Roden was aggressive in looking for her shot but also looking towards the rim as she paced them with 14 points in the half. She totaled 25 points in total, hitting 6 three’s including an exclamation point at the end. One player who provided them with extra scoring was Addison Wedin Addison Wedin 5'11" | PG La Salle | 2021 State OR , who had 5 in the half for a total of 7 as she provided them with extra depth. Stars 69, 61.
The Stars are a second half team
As shown in several games, the Stars come out a little shy in the first half, as it is the second half where they truly shine. They have come out from behind several times and like their chances as the underdogs going into the later half as they establish their aggressiveness and tone in this regard. Basketball is a game of runs, as Talana Lepolo Talana Lepolo 5'7" | PG Saint Joseph Notre Dame HS | 2022 State CA knows who and where to dish it to as well as when to take it into the lane herself. This group likes to make it interesting and entertaining and has definitely defined this in several games this session.
Audrey Roden Audrey Roden 5'9" | SG West Linn | 2021 State OR strikes again
Roden was the unsung hero of the NW Blazers game as she hit for a game high 25 points, as she put together two great halves of basketball. Her bread and butter is her three-point ball, which she looks to assertively but she also has the capability to take it inside and either finish or draw the foul. The trademark play for her were the final points for the Stars as she sank a dagger to put it absolutely out of reach for the Blazers. She turned it on again in a truly big way when the Stars needed it the most.
Addison Wedin Addison Wedin 5'11" | PG La Salle | 2021 State OR comes alive
Wedin’s shot began coming down on Day 3, as she began hitting her patented three-point shot. As of late, she has depended on scoring in the paint through a nice variety of post moves, short jumpers, and lay-ups. It was a sigh of relief for her and her team when her perimeter shot sank, as it gave the Stars another scoring option from deep. Her 8 point and 7 point performances were pivotal for her club as they had another scoring option from three in addition to Makena Mastrona and Audrey Roden Audrey Roden 5'9" | SG West Linn | 2021 State OR .
