Many teams have also graduated key players who have moved on to play in college, which should open up more touches for the their respective successors.
Here are some players we’re expecting to take over this coming regular season for their teams.
Abby Wrede Abby Wrede 5'8" | SG Cherry Creek | 2021 State CO (Cherry Creek)
Wrede is one of the most improved players in her class. She is a tremendous shooter who can light it up from anywhere on the floor and Wrede also does a great job of moving without the ball, making her tough to locate until she’s knocking out a wide open corner three. She averaged 10.6 points per game on 110-for-208 (53 percent) shooting from the floor in 2019-20 and went 32 for 76 (42 percent) from the outside. Wrede also does well dribbling through traffic, creating opportunities for herself or for her teammates. Wrede also shows the ability to defend, keeping players in front and forcing turnovers.
Lexi Szathmary Lexi Szathmary 5'6" | SG D'Evelyn | 2021 State CO (D’Evelyn)
Szathmary has a good feel for the game at both ends of the floor. She is not afraid to step up and take a charge in order to gain an extra possession for her team. Szathmary is also an able shooter and is versatile on offense. She averaged 10.9 points, 3.4 rebounds and 3.6 steals per game to pace her team in 2019-20. A player who does well enough under pressure to make the reads on the offensive end, Szathmary will be leading the way for her team and should have a great senior year.
Amyah Moore Amyah Moore 5'9" | SG Harrison | 2021 State CO (Harrison)
Moore does not shy away from putting the ball in the hoop and standing at 5-foot-8, she is the one of the most efficient players in her class. Averaging 21.8 points per game as a junior, Moore shot 215 for 375 (57 percent) from the field last winter and posting a season high with 29 points. She also scored 27 in four different contests. She has already joined the 1,000-point club with 1,170 in her career and with one more year left, she could take the 4A Colorado Springs Metro League by storm as a senior.
Mia Collins Mia Collins 5'5" | SG Cherokee Trail | 2021 State CO (Cherokee Trail)
Collins is player who will leave it all on the floor with her relentless effort on both ends. She has great foot speed and will dive on the floor for loose balls, and Collins also shows the ability to move her feet well on the ball to create turnovers. She averaged 7.2 points per game on 70-for-191 (37 percent) shooting from the floor and can get to the rim with a variety of finishes and great touch. Collins also averaged 2.3 rebounds and 1.8 steals per game in 2019-20. She does a great job of anticipating passes and running through the pass to force a turnover and ignite the fast break. Collins can be a special player for Cherokee Trail this coming season as the Cougars recently sent a trio of key players off to the collegiate ranks.
Hannah Burg Hannah Burg 5'8" | SG Falcon | 2021 State CO (Falcon)
A dual-sport athlete who grew up playing both football, as a quarterback, and basketball, Burg is the leading scorer for Falcon with 14.1 points per game on 114-for-277 (41 percent) shooting from the field. She can get her shot off and has great effort at both ends of the floor. Burg has scored a total of 754 points in her career and put up 352 this past season. On pace to join the 1,000-point club and a dynamic all-around athlete, Burg is an able shooter from the floor and can knock down shots from the outside where she went 23 for 71 (32 percent) in 2019-20. Burg also averaged 4.6 rebounds and 3.3 steals per game as a junior.
