I got to see a ton of talented under-the-radar prospects compete against one another. Here are few players that caught my eye:
Bella Diaz | 2022 Combo Guard | DFW Hawks 2021 | Stephenville HS – Diaz is a terrific defender. She comes away with tons of steals and isn’t afraid to get up into whoever she is guarding. Her solid size and length also help her at that end. Beyond that, Diaz looks comfortable playing either guard spot. She has a nice little floater in her arsenal and contributes on the boards as well.
Hallie McPherson | 2022 Point Guard | DFW Hawks 2021 | Brock HS – McPherson might not have been at 100% this past weekend, as she was sporting a pretty bulky brace on her right leg. However, she still found ways to be productive despite likely being a step slower than she usually is. She is a savvy ball handler who smartly utilizes picks and screens to navigate her way through the defense. Furthermore, McPherson still managed to beat defenders off the dribble and get to the hole.
Leilah Hubbard | 2022 Power Forward | DC Queens Denton | Denton Guyer HS – Hubbard may be a bit undersized for the four, but her motor combats the size she gives up. She is a physical forward who likes to bang around down low. She can hit moving shots while cutting across the paint and works hard as a rebounder at both ends.
Raylee McDonald | 2023 Power Forward | DFW Hawks 2023 | Aledo HS – McDonald possesses a long and wiry frame and has no issue getting up and down the court in transition. She is light on her feet and great about trailing on the break for clean-up duty at the basket. She follows her own shot and stays with it on the offensive glass. Defensively, McDonald is an anchor for her team. She blocks shots and clogs passing lanes.
Gracie Hunter | 2024 Combo Guard | DC Queens Denton | Krum HS – Hunter is a flashy ball handler with some flair to her game. That said, she always looks under control. She likes to shoot off the dribble but can also knock down triples from the catch. The soon-to-be freshman gets around defenders with euro steps and ball fakes when she drives. She is a willing distributor too. She’s someone to keep an eye on in the class of 2024.
