Windy City Classic: 2021 Top Players

I spent the past weekend in Indianapolis watching the Windy City Classic.  Below are my top players from the class of 2021 that I watched. [player_tooltip player_id="194232" first="Mallory" last="Powers"] 5’11 Amboy High School / Illinois Midwest Wildcats:  Mallory is a long athlete that can score from anywhere on the court.  She isn’t afraid to attack the rim and has a nice jumper that can knock down a three.  She runs the floor well and when she has the ball, she pushes the tempo and is on the lookout for an open teammate. [player_tooltip player_id="194093" first="Sofie" last="Lowis"] 5’8 Sacred Heart-Griffin / Illinois Predators Lowis:  Sofie is an absolute stud.  She has a Steph Curry like shot- super quick release and when she lets it go, you always think it is going in because it usually does.  She has terrific handles and a deadly quick crossover. [player_tooltip player_id="194227" first="Olivia" last="Hopp"] 5’9 Stark County High School / Illinois Warriors White:  A shooter!! Olivia has one of the prettiest jumpers that I saw all weekend.  She is a consistent shooter that is built to handle the grind of college basketball immediately. [player_tooltip player_id="198678" first="Riley" last="Jenkins"] 5’8 Galesburg High School / Heart of Illinois:  One of my favorite players to watch.  A lefty, Riley is a good athlete that is always under control.  She plays fast and pushes the tempo but seems to always be relaxed and under full control.  She can pass on the move and finds the open teammate.  She has the ability to be a team’s point guard in college or play off the ball.  She will excel in either position at the next level. [player_tooltip player_id="194092" first="Emily" last="Brenneisen"] 5’11 Sacred Heart-Griffin / Illinois Predators Lowis:  The best post defender I saw over the weekend.  Emily stands at 5’11 but plays bigger than that.  She is a lefty that can hit the 3, finish around the rim with contact and grab rebounds.  She can step in at the college level and produce at the 3-spot right away. [player_tooltip player_id="194091" first="Addison" last="Scarlette"] 5’7 Sacred Heart-Griffin / Illinois Predators Lowis:  Addison is such a fun player to watch.  She never seems to run out of energy and works her butt off.  She has a nice looking jumper and isn’t afraid of contact.  She will battle with girls much bigger than her and she really excelled this weekend finishing around the rim with contact.  Addison would be a welcomed addition to any Division 3 team. [player_tooltip player_id="194229" first="Kelci" last="Shelton"] 5’5 Monmouth Roseville High School / Illinois Valley Warriors White:  Kelci has terrific vision and that is exactly what you want in your point guard.  She attacks the rim very well and does so using an effective jump stop.  She has full control of the tempo all game and has a pretty jump shot. [player_tooltip player_id="123619" first="Asya" last="Smith"] 5’7 Pleasant Plains High School / Illinois Predators Lowis:  The best pure point guard that I saw over the weekend, Asya is a coach’s dream.  She works her tail off and plays with so much heart.  She is a fantastic passer and sets up her teammates well.  She attacks the rim hard and can score off the attack or hit an open teammate.  She has an unorthodox shot but it goes in and she can knock down the three ball.  She has great footwork and is a lock down defender. [player_tooltip player_id="123596" first="Addison" last="Newbon"] 5’9 Decatur St Teresa Catholic High School / Illinois Valley Warriors Blue:  A college ready player, Addison is super smooth.  She has a good jumper and does everything on the court well.  A poised player, nothing seemed to rattle or bother Addison all weekend.
