One of the hallmark programs in recent years has been American Heritage in Plantation. The Patriots have won three straight championships, most recently taking down Pine Forest by a score of 51-33. It will come as now surprise the Patriots have a couple of elite players on this list.
Let’s take a look at some of the best players the county has to offer. This is only part one, so don’t get disgruntled if a player is not on this list yet! It just goes to show the talent that resides in this region.
Taliyah Wyche Taliyah Wyche 6'2" | C American Heritage | 2021 State FL – American Heritage
The 6-foot-3 Florida Gator commit has dominated during her time as a Patriot. Wyche averaged 19.0 points, 14.0 rebounds and 3.6 blocks per game across 28 games as a junior. The three-time state champion is equally as dominant on the offensive (5.6 RPG) and defensive (7.1 RPG) glass. In the state final, Wyche scored 31 points and grabbed 11 rebounds on 13-of-22 shooting. It is pretty much game over when she gets the ball in the paint.
Tatyana Wyche Tatyana Wyche 6'2" | C American Heritage | 2021 State FL – American Heritage
The Patriots will look to join an elite club in winning four straight championships this season. If that is going to happen, 6-foot-3 junior twin Tatyana Wyche Tatyana Wyche 6'2" | C American Heritage | 2021 State FL will be a big reason why. The Gainesville bound center/forward averaged 15.0 points, 17,0 rebounds and 3.9 blocks last season. Wyche combined with her sister to score 19 of the Patriots 20 field goals in the state final. You can pretty much take what I said above and apply it to the other twin tower. The sisters have already trademarked American Heritage into a basketball juggernaut and will look to close their high school chapters as textbook winners. (As if they aren’t already).
Claire Erickson Claire Erickson 5'6" | PG Westminster Academy | 2022 State FL – Westminster Academy
2022 Claire Erickson Claire Erickson 5'6" | PG Westminster Academy | 2022 State FL helped propel the Lions to a 21-5 record and a spot in the 3A regional final. Westminster Academy went on an 11-game winning streak before falling to Miami Country Day with her at the helm. The 5-foot-6 point guard averaged 13 points and four assists per game. Erickson is a clear leader with good vision on the court and already has won 40 games in her high school career. Look for her to continue her ascension as one of the best back-court players in the county.
Khyla Ngodu – Dillard
2023 Khyla Ngodu has already made a name for herself across Broward County. The 6-foot-2 center/forward averaged 12.1 points and 12.2 rebounds across 26 games. Ngodu is efficient in the paint, knocking down two-thirds of her attempts. The Panthers won 20 games with her as the leading scorer and rebounder. Additionally, Ngodu led the team in block shots with 1.3 per game. The rising sophomore took the Panthers to the state regional final and is just in the beginning of her high school accolades.
Sharale McCormick – Cardinal Gibbons
2021 Sharale McCormick will look to handle unfinished business for the Chiefs next season. McCormick helped lead Cardinal Gibbons to a 25-4 record before falling to Lake Highland Prep in the 4A final four. The 5-foot-10 guard averaged 11.8 points, 5.1 rebounds and 3.6 assists for the Chiefs. Additionally, McCormick is an excellent free-throw shooter at 92 percent. Cardinal Gibbons will have to replace 2020 leading scorer Jennifer Whitlow.
