Donovyn has shown her ability to knock down perimeter jumpers for the Stars as well as swiftly get into the lane and finish strongly at the rim. But what should also be noted is her suave passing skills along with her overall court savviness as she has a certain awareness that is particular for her age group.
Aaronette Vonleh Aaronette Vonleh 6'3" | C West Linn | 2021 State #76 Nation OR 2021 6’3″ C Cal Stars/West Linn HS – Had a monster game the second game against MN Stars in which she poured in 16 points and was absolutely unstoppable as they went to her early and often. Versus 43Hoops she contributed 7 points, as she has shown time in, time out when she is given the ball in good spots on the court, namely deep in the post, it is not a matter of when she is going to score as much as how she is going to do it.
Marley Langi Marley Langi 6'0" | SF Archbishop Mitty | 2021 State CA 2021 6’0″ SF Cal Stars/Archbishop Mitty HS – In their opening game, she had another trademark performance of 8 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists as the familiar consistency forward who plays the entire floor so well. She showed her strengths from Iowa as a player that can play inside defensively and offensively, but can play some point forward as well. Her passing game is the final lining to the game, as she is sleek in this category but makes it look so pedestrian.
Audrey Roden Audrey Roden 5'9" | SG West Linn | 2021 State OR 2021 5’9″ SG Cal Stars/West Linn HS – One of the motors for the Stars, in the form of a self-sufficient guard who can score in a hurry, off her own steals as well as big time perimeter shots down the stretch. In the first game, she contributed 13 points, 2 rebounds, and 5 steals as she got her way into the passing lane quite a few times. Against MN Stars, she had 11 points, 2 blocks, and 3 steals in another solid defensive effort as she helped seal the edges for the Stars in a close game.
Talana Lepolo Talana Lepolo 5'7" | PG Saint Joseph Notre Dame HS | 2022 State CA 2022 5’7″ PG Cal Stars/St Joseph Notre Dame HS – Talana provided stability at the point guard stop once again, through her intricate systematic approach to the game tied in with her aggressive tone when distributing the ball. In their first game, she had 3 points and 5 assists, during their second outing she had 5 points, 2 rebounds, 6 assists, and 2 steals in a magnificent effort. One of the challenges she faced was playing without Makena Mastora, a player who she has built chemistry with as they both suit up for St Joseph Notre Dame.
Calli Stokes Calli Stokes 6'0" | SF Redondo Union HS | 2021 State CA 2021 5’11″ SG Cal Stars/Redondo Union HS – Calli, the ever ready Gonzaga commit, had a huge two first games in Minnesota for the Stars, as he was the difference maker in a close game against the MN Stars. Down by 1 with the last possession of the game, the Stars looked no further than Stokes, who drained a 3 as the buzzer went off to seal the deal. Stokes has continued to show her isolation face up game, in which she caps off with a mid-range jumper. Had 7 points and 2 rebounds in the first game and 6 points and 4 rebounds in the second contest.
Addison Wedin Addison Wedin 5'11" | PG La Salle | 2021 State OR 2021 5’11″ SG Cal Stars/West Linn HS – The newly signed St. Mary’s guard came in looking fresh with the pressure of commitment washed away and looked more composed than she has been in the last few weeks. Was a big contributor in the game against MN Stars as she had 8 points and 2 rebounds, sinking down huge shots and finding other means to score. Had 5 points and 2 rebounds in their opening game as she has been consistent over the amount of minutes given to her and makes sure to make an impact.
Jessica Peterson Jessica Peterson 6'3" | C Corona Centennial | 2021 State CA 2021 6’3″ C Cal Stars/Etiwanda – Was one of their anchors defensively in the form of a fearless interior defender who looks to lock down the paint with her physicality. Had 8 points, 2 rebounds, and 2 assists as in the first game she was able to get loose on offense, as she is that much more valuable when she scores. Against the MN Stars, she had 6 rebounds to go with 2 blocks, as she was depended on by her teammates to thwart the opposition.
Stokes Fills in Mastora’s Absence
Makena Mastora was such an efficient player for the Stars who filled in huge roles for them during her time in Iowa. She was a knockdown shooter who didn’t command a lot of touches and on defense she used her stringy athletic abilities to pester her opponent into mistakes. Calli Stokes Calli Stokes 6'0" | SF Redondo Union HS | 2021 State CA stepped up in a big way, as she showed that she is a lethal scorer who can make the most out of the possessions that come her way. Stokes has a refined offensive game that is defined by her isolation mid-range game, a true throwback technique. She also has the instincts late game to put it away, which we saw with her game winner.
Vonleh and Peterson
Vonleh is as much of a threat offensively as she is defensively, however, when the Stars need a basket inside, they will flip the ball into her for an easy score. This was showcased in her 16 point outburst against MN Stars, a game in which they went early and often down low to her. Jessica will fill in for Vonleh and provide defensive stability and allow their perimeter unit to shine as the Stars have versatility in their post players and what they bring to the table. This has shown to be effective as they can use different line-ups and combination of players to their liking based on different game situations.
Cases of Consistency
This team, having been battle tested in Iowa against teams around the nation have now grown together as a collective, thus we have seen marks of consistency from their players. Audrey Roden Audrey Roden 5'9" | SG West Linn | 2021 State OR can be depended upon for her lightning quick defensive scheme as well as her perimeter shooting and scoring in traisiton. Addison Wedin Addison Wedin 5'11" | PG La Salle | 2021 State OR is a microwave that comes off the bench, hits shots and plays defensive without the Stars losing any sort of momentum. Donovyon Hunter has proven to be an effective guard who is steadily increasing her minutes and production. Players like Talana Lepolo Talana Lepolo 5'7" | PG Saint Joseph Notre Dame HS | 2022 State CA and Marley Langi Marley Langi 6'0" | SF Archbishop Mitty | 2021 State CA have proven themselves to be system players and have shown that they simply make players around them better.
