Obviously, these regions will change into next season but for these stories it was the easiest way to divide players and teams as equally as possible.
We will be writing a series of three stories for each region in the state and the categories are as follows: 2023’s to put on Your Radar, 2022’s who can Breakout, and 2021’s Who Should be Valued by Colleges.
We will continue to go through each region and aim to hit as many players as we can that we haven’t talked about previously. Here are five 2022’s who could be primed for big seasons.
Kaitlyn Powell – Davenport West
Despite being just a sophomore, Kaitlyn Powell had a big season for Davenport West.
Powell led the team in scoring, producing almost 12 points a night on 31 percent shooting from the field. She finished with 236 points in all, adding a team-high 34 assists with 86 rebounds, 21 steals and seven blocked shots.
Kamryn Grissel Kamryn Grissel 5'8" | SF Prairie | 2022 State IA – Cedar Rapids Prairie
Throughout her sophomore season, Kamryn Grissel Kamryn Grissel 5'8" | SF Prairie | 2022 State IA was a constant for Cedar Rapids Prairie.
Making 24 starts, Grissel scored 181 points with 82 rebounds, 49 assists, 29 steals and even blocked five shots. The guard shot almost 40 percent from the floor and sank 14 three-pointers for the Hawks.
Addie Kerkhoff – Pleasant Valley
Pleasant Valley’s climb up the standings will be an interesting one as they will need even more production out of returning players such as Addie Kerkhoff.
Kerkhoff, a member of the Class of 2022, scored 176 points while making 23 starts last year as a sophomore. She also contributed 80 rebounds, 48 steals and 21 assists with 27 made three-pointers.
Kylee Devore – Davenport West
Davenport West has a pretty impressive duo from the Class of 2022, as Kylee Devore pairs up with Kaitlyn Powell to form a 1-2 punch.
While Powell led the team in scoring, Devore was the top rebounder, averaging over eight per game including three on the offensive glass. She finished her sophomore season with 93 points, 150 rebounds and 44 blocks.
Grace Bode – Muscatine
Muscatine’s Grace Bode was constantly in the rotation last year, scoring 55 points with 21 rebounds, 11 steals and seven assists. She made almost 50 percent of her shots from the floor and also knocked down eight three-pointers.
