This group of freshman are hard workers and play at a high competitive level. These players are apart of the North Coast Section Division 2:
Peyton Holcomb- 2023, Guard & PF, #25, Benicia High School (Benicia, CA)
We have discussed Peyton before, and she is very talented. She is a very skilled and talented basketball player. She is the type of player to learn from their mistakes, and once she masters a new skill, she will use it constantly. Peyton averaged 13.1 PPG, with a total of 327 points during the 2019-2020 season. Not only that, she also averaged 11.9 RPG. Holcomb works very hard, and she is a hard player to stop on the drive. Her dribbling skills are almost at the expert level, and even then she still can become a better player. You can really tell she puts in the work during practice, and on her own. Overall, Peyton is a very physical player that deserves more recognition.
Jazmine Fontilla’s- 2023, PG & SG, #23, American Canyon High School (American Canyon, CA)
Jazmine Fontilla’s career as a freshman at American Canyon High School was fantastic. Jazmine is an aggressive player, and she uses every ounce of energy she has with every play she commits. Jazmine is very poised on the court. Her dribbling abilities are top-notch, and has a killer spin move that is hard to stop. Dribbling through traffic is very easy for her, she can dribble and keep possession with 5 players surrounding her. Fontilla is able to make very quick decisions, and is a very quick player herself. When she is on the defensive end, she is on top of every rebound, and every block. Jazmine averaged 11.5 PPG, and scored a total of 264 points during the 2019-2020 season. Along with that she has a 54% FT%, averaged 6.3 RPG, and 2.6 SPG. Jazmine is a very skilled player on the fast break, and has no issue taking it to the rack herself. Jazmine is a very confident player, and is able to create plays on her own. Although, most plays she creates for her teammates are remarkable as well. Jazmine Fontilla is a very smart player, and her skill set will carry on into the rest of her high school career
Alyssa Jackson– 2023, 5’10”, SF, #30, Salesian College Preparatory High School (Richmond, CA)
Alyssa Jackson is a very competitive and dominant player. She has the physicality of a collegiate athlete. Alyssa is able to dribble down the court, and can easily find an open teammate. Jackson has long arms, and that helps with her rebounding, blocking, and steals. She is a very difficult player to guard due to her intimidating demeanor. Alyssa averaged 6.1 PPG, 4.2 RPG, and 2.1 SPG. She has lots of room to improve, and I believe she can score more than she does already. As mentioned before, she is a tough player to guard, therefore she has more opportunities to score than others. She can really take the game into her own hands with some improvement, and with some more practice she can become a top-notch player that college coaches will want to have on their team. I’m excited to see what she brings to the table during her Sophomore year.
Madison Smith- 2023, Forward, #11, Tamalpais High School (Mill Valley, CA)
Madison Smith of Tamalpais High School is the definition of players that will go very far in their basketball careers. She is a very active player, especially on the defensive end. She is always on the prowl for steals, and getting defensive rebound for her team. Her effectiveness on defense is out of this world. Boxing out is a specialty of hers, and never fails to do it on each shot attempt. Madison averaged 4.1 RPG, and averaged 2.6 PPG during the 2019-2020 season. Now Madison has a certain skillset that really allows her to improve. She is an aggressive player, and always plays at full speed. I can see Madison becoming a fantastic player, with an advanced skillset. I’m looking forward to seeing her career in basketball grow exponentially.
