Below are players who showed impressive rebounding during their grassroots seasons and are predicted to be top rebounders during the high school season. These prospects have strong desires to rebound and it shows through their hustle and competitiveness. These players have been relentless on the glass.
Katie Hildebrandt | Wisconsin Academy | 6’2 SF | 2021
Hildrebrandt had a breakout summer and impacted the game on so many levels. She can step outside and hit outside shots, drive to the basket with impressive ball handling for her size, and defend. She causes chaos in the lane and is very intimidating. She has the ability to be a key shot blocker due to her speed, athleticism and eye for the ball. She has composure on the floor and doesn’t force the block or deflection. She can heat up off the block, and I think Hildebrandt has the potential to play a major role at the next level because of her versatility.
Sarah Lazar Sarah Lazar 6'3" | SF Madison Edgewood | 2021 State WI | Wisconsin Academy | 6’3 F | 2021
Lazar is a versatile threat that was a major contributor for her Wisconsin Academy team this year. Her length, agility and mobility for her size are impressive. She does well using her size inside to hold position and grab rebounds. She keeps the ball high and finishes well against contact for easy offensive putbacks. She plays very well in a fast paced system and can run the floor with quick guards. Lazar has great lateral quickness and her balance on the floor is beyond impressive. The offense flows with Lazar on the floor as her basketball IQ is so high. She sparked a lot of noise this summer for her ability to not only score multiple points per game and defend against strong post players but also due to her rebounds. She is strong underneath and has so much skill chasing down boards or holding off boards; it is exciting to watch.
Laura Nickel Laura Nickel 6'0" | PF Marshall | 2021 State WI | Purple Aces | 6’0 F | 2021
Nickel is a great shot blocker; she led her team in blocks last season. She’s also a fantastic rebounder, both on offense and defense. She is a threat that needs to be accounted for on every possession. Defenders not only have to guard her on the ball, they have to also know where she’s moving off the ball. This is because she’s intelligent when cutting and using screens and finds crafty ways to get her shot off. She is a dominant presence on the ball and can be very dynamic. I’d confidently say that Nickel could guard 2-5 as she has the speed and agility to defend a guard and the strength and power to guard a post .
Olivia Bree | 1 on 1 Milwaukee | 6’0 F | 2021
Bree is a dynamic scoring forward who can put the ball in the hole in many ways. She’s become a three level scorer, and she’s developing confidence shooting the outside shot. She isn’t the smoothest player, but she knows how to convert and contribute for her team. She is very elite when attacking off a post move and using her body against a player. She does well drawing fouls on the block as well. Defensively, Bree shows much promise- she plays with elite instincts and a great first jump. Her tape shows her great help side defense; she often makes weak side blocks or steals entry passes with ease. She projects as a very good two way player at the level level.
