With the 2021 class having minimum exposure this summer and recruiting being more difficult than ever, many 2021 guards have slid under the radar and need not be forgotten about as the high school season emerges. These guards have shown tremendous efforts and talents and should still be a threat to opponents and on the eyes of coaches at the next level.
Mara McAdams | 1 on 1 Milwaukee | 5’8 G
A dynamic, playmaking guard with a high upside. She is great in the pick-and-roll and thrives off finding the crafty pass to her big man. Her operation skills in these scenarios are superb. She can also get to the rim, patiently pull up for a jumper or find the screener effectively as mentioned. She has very elite vision in general, she can easily make skip passes to the corner or across the court to an open shooter. She has great size and is long when defending and deflecting passes. McAdamas has an innate ability to square herself up for her shot, both when driving and from the perimeter which could really impact a team at the next level.
Aaliyah Parker | 1 on 1 Milwaukee | 5’3 PG
Parker is a springy athlete that excels at the point guard position. Her athleticism for her size is shown through literally everything she does on the floor. She is very tenacious when targeting the ball, especially mid air. She excels at being a floor general and running the offense for her team. Her tempo is patient but fast- she seems to enjoy getting up and down the court. Her competitiveness is on full display at all times. She is gifted athletically and has very impressive fundamentals.
Nahli Smith | 1 on 1 Milwaukee | 5’3 PG
Smith is a quick but calculated point guard that could be considered a combo guard as well. Her head is always up when dribbling, which enables her to find open teammates and look-off defenders. The ability to fake a defender out with only the eyes is very elite- it shows that she is incredibly comfortable with the ball. Change of pace is also very noticeable in Smith’s game. She is phenomenal at transitioning from high to low and slow to fast. An ample scorer who enjoys attacking the rim, Smith could easily take over a game. Though injured for most of the Grassroots season this summer, look for Smith to make a huge impact this high school season.
Emma Thistle | Wisconsin Impact | 5’4 G
Thistle is a true point guard with great vision and natural comfortability with the ball. She can use both her right and left hands to attack the basket. She’s a prolific scorer and playmaker for her Impact team when she wants to be. She has a great ability to finish through contact and hang in the air. Thistle is fantastic at reading the defender, both on the perimeter and in the paint. She possesses ample passing skills especially with just one hand. She plays with quickness and likes to get out on the fast break- she plays low to the ground, but can burst through defenders with ease.
Charley Apple | Purple Aces | 5’5 G
Apple has a knack for the offensive game and is great at finishing through contact. She has an impressive floater as well that she added to her game this season. Her athleticism allows her to adjust mid air and finish creatively around the rim. Apple is quick off the bounce, and has very good movement off the ball; she has a great ability to read the defender when she’s coming off an off-ball screen. She is a primary ball handler and is impressive reading and creating her own shot on the perimeter.
