Right from the start, Central DeWitt was on fire last year, winning 16 of its first 18 games. The Sabers reached a Class 4A regional championship before a tough five-point setback to Center Point-Urbana. They return leading scorer and rebounder [player_tooltip player_id="128997" first="Taylor" last="Veach"], along with top distributor Talbot Kinney. Veach posted 451 points with 140 rebounds, 33 assists, 33 steals, 11 blocks and 47 made three-pointers as a sophomore, with Kinney dishing out 65 assists with 101 points and 101 rebounds. Junior Allison Meadows is coming off a 339-point campaign with 51 steals.

One of the toughest defenses in Class 1A a year ago came from Central Elkader, as the Warriors won 21 games before falling in a regional championship. Eleven players from that roster are scheduled to return, but Central Elkader will need to replace four key senior starters. Haley Frieden, a sophomore, is the most experienced player back after starting 20 games and scoring 220 points. She also had 121 rebounds, 24 steals, 24 blocks and 20 assists, knocking down 36 three-pointers, which tied for the team lead. Seniors Maci Kluesner, Madison Sylvester, Nichole White and Abby Cummer all saw extended minutes.

A year ago, Central Lee reached a regional championship before coming up short vs. Des Moines Christian. The Hawks should be set for another big season with the return of senior [player_tooltip player_id="131136" first="Mya" last="Merschman"]. Last year, Merschman averaged 25 points and 11 rebounds per game. She finished with 607 points, 257 rebounds, 55 steals and 33 assists, knocking down almost 58 percent of her shots. Classmate Ella Sanders is also back along with fellow starters Macy Watkins and [player_tooltip player_id="127619" first="Makayla" last="Morrison"].
