Holding onto the #1 spot within the 2028 Class moving into this Spring is none other than PG - [player_tooltip player_id='643486' first='Jhaliana' last='Guy'] of Clinton High School. Guy is coming off of her best high school season to date. She helped lead her Clinton High School team to several wins this season, while breaking most of the records that were held from the past. In the end, they might not of made it all the way to State but this season was mainly to set the foundation for years to come. If they can build on this as a group moving into the next two seasons then I'm sure we will see this team in DSM at State before everything is said and done. Individually, over the next few weeks Guy will be going out to AZ to attend Team USA trails to see if she can make Team USA for her age level moving into the Summer. If she takes care of business and demonstrates her entire arsenal, she should have a decent shot of making the team this time around but we will just have to wait and see how it all plays out!

There isn't enough good things to say about [player_tooltip player_id='883552' first='Braylyn' last='Birmingham'] and the Winter she just put together as a whole. Sometimes prospects have a thing called a Sophomore slump, where they don't play as well as they did as a Freshman for their Sophomore season but that's not the case here. If anything, Birmingham was even better as a Sophomore. In the off-season leading up to this past Winter this was someone who lived in gym. She ate, slept, dreamed, and breathed hoops and that determination is helping her progress into one hell of a player. I know there are a lot of D2 coaches out there who think they can snag Birmingham because her older sister is killing it at that level right now but Braylyn is D1. All day, twice on Sundays and if she keeps getting better in her off-time, who knows how far she will be able to take things. You have to remember that we are talking about a 6'0 PG, that can score, create, and facilitate better than most at the high school level right now so her possibilities are endless.

[player_tooltip player_id='880913' first='Kelli' last='Kalb'] stays locked in at our #3 spot following an undefeated high school season with her Johnston Dragon crew. Kalb, the 5'11 SG, is a bucket off the catch from deep. She shoots the ball effortlessly with it almost coming off her hand looking like it's about to be a swish every time. No matter the defense or situation at hand. We have only been able to see glimpses of Kalb and her full potential the past few years but I'm hoping that is going to change starting this Spring. I feel that Kalb should be used in AIA EYBL system at a high rate as their SG or CG over the next few months for her grade level. From there, she can work off of that momentum and bring some fire to the floor next Winter at Johnston, where she is going to be looked upon to produce at an extremely high rate if their team wants to be successful once again.

I don't know how else to say it but [player_tooltip player_id='1092007' first='Sadie' last='McCann'] just has the "it" factor. You can't put it in words or explain it but McCann makes some tough plays on both ends of the floor. She is maybe the most efficient scoring threat out of this Top Five as a whole, she defends at a high rate which turns into steals and buckets down on the other end, and most importantly - she plays the game the right way. She swings the ball, moves, and rotates. She moves into open space when things get too crammed in one area and she is extremely adaptable. We have seen Waukee NW do their thing the past few years and I'm expect to see more of that this upcoming winter. If players like McCann hold their own like they should, they are going to be a program that is hard to beat for years to come.

Jumping up to the #5 spot in this Update is PG - [player_tooltip player_id='957840' first='Savanna' last='Wright'] of Mount Vernon High School. Wright showed up all we needed to see to end this high school season at the State Tournament. She led her team from the front, either as their leading scoring threat or creating threat at the PG position. She got to every spot she wanted offensively, always giving herself a clean attempt in one way or another down the stretch. Defensively, she stood out as someone that is going to make you work. She doesn't slack on that side of the ball and that shows. All in all, this is another D1 prospect. Just like everyone on this Top Five list. If she works on her weaknesses as she simultaneously sharpens her strengths, she is going to be a leader to watch at the collegiate level one day.
