The AZGR Rising Stars Weekend consisted of a High School Team Showcase and a Elite Camp. There were numerous 2023 players that performed well over the weekend and are primed to be ranked for the first time when the rakings are released next Monday. Here are eleven players that are included in that list. [player_tooltip player_id="208030" first="Myah" last="Verse"] (5’11’’, Arizona Prep Elite, SG) - Verse is arguably one of the most athletic players in the country. Although her skill set is still developing, she is a human highlight reel. As far as her development goes, she has improved tremendously over the past 3 months and there is no reason for that rapid development to not continue. Verse is a definite top 5 player in the class and she will probably end up a top 50 player in the country in a couple years. [player_tooltip player_id="208047" first="Reilly" last="Clark"] (5’10’’, Catalina Foothills, CG) - Clark is one of the best shooters in the class and developed a nice handles and gamesmanship. She had one of the best freshman seasons as anyone 2023 prospect in the state. Clark need to continue to get stronger but he has very good upside. She has such a feel for the game and she is always adding something to her game. Clark is a definite top 10 player in the class. [player_tooltip player_id="208240" first="Rickelle" last="Andrade"] (5’9’’, Deer Valley, SG) - Another sniper from all over the court. Andrade has added the ability to attack the basket and she is a high IQ player. She has good length and size for the position and Andrade is another 2023 player that had an outstanding freshman campaign. Excited to see her growth over the next couple years. [player_tooltip player_id="208244" first="Mya" last="Way"] (5’4’’, Mesquite, CG) - Way played for NWT in the team showcase division. Way is crafty and she can generate points in a variety of ways. She uses her size to her advantage and Way has some good quickness and savvy. Way missed most of her freshman season at Mesquite due to injury so this was our first time getting a chance to see her perform. Fun to watch her do her thing on the court. [player_tooltip player_id="65617" first="Hannah" last="Young"] (5’11’’, Xavier, W) - Young has improved so much in the last year and now she has added really good perimeter play to her game. She can still battle down low and rebound with the best of them....but Young is now able to attack the basket and she is a wonderful inside defender. She is trending upwards and she has one of the best motors in the class. [player_tooltip player_id="208251" first="Katie" last="Burns"] (5’7’’, Catalina Foothills, PG) - A true Lead Guard who makes excellent decisions on the court. Burns was very effective running Cat Foot’s offense as a frosh. She is a student of the game and she is now demonstrating an improved jumper which will increase her impact on the game. [player_tooltip player_id="208239" first="Mak" last="Snyder"] (5’6’’, Sandra Day, CG) - Snyder’s is a high octane player that leaves everything on the floor. She will get the 50-50 balls due to her desire and work ethic. Snyder demonstrated an improved jumper at the event and she is the ultimate teammate. Always love her effort and approach to the game. [player_tooltip player_id="208253" first="Navine" last="Mallon"] (5’8’’, Flowing Wells, Wing) - Malllon was one of the better freshmen entering high school but had delayed start to her high school career was derailed due to an injury. It’s been a long road back but Mallon is finally looking like her old self. She is a physical guard that thrives on contact on both ends of the court. Mallon can take the defender off the dribble and she has an effective jumper to keep the defense honest. [player_tooltip player_id="208257" first="Aaliyah" last="Linn"] (5’9’’, Sabino, SG) - Way played for AZ Select - Tucson in the team showcase division. Linn is a big guard with a lot of promise. She just needs more experience but the measurables are there. Linn is athletic and moves very well without the basketball. Another year of development and she will move up the rankings and position herself as a legitimate college prospect. [player_tooltip player_id="208258" first="Diya" last="Venkat"] (5’5’’, Sandra Day, CG) - Venkat continues to get better with every showing. She is very good in transition and an effective defender. Venkat will break into he rankings this time around. [player_tooltip player_id="208268" first="Jordan" last="Decker"] (5’8’’, University, CG) - First time viewing of Decker but she has some obvious talent and skill. Although she performed well, we will evaluate her in a team setting to obtain a better understanding of her strengths. She has some good upside.
