I am pleased to share my list of players that I have researched before and to share their skills with others. Listed below are incoming Juniors of the North Coast Section that have the potential to play at the collegiate level.
Aunika Hornung- (2022), So, C, 6”2’, #24, James Logan High School (Union City, CA)
I’ve talked about Aunika before, and she is not a player that should be looked over. Aunika Hornung is an absolute beast on the court, offensively and defensively. She plays with so much poise and control. Has great composure under the basket, and she is a very difficult player to guard. Her long wingspan assists in her ability to steal, block, and rebound the ball. Aunkia averaged 13.5 PPG, and 13.5 RPG. To average in points and rebounds over 10 a game is spectacular. Her free throw percentages averaged at 61%, and her field goal percentage averaged at 44%. As mentioned before, her rebounding skills are phenomenal, it’s not a surprise that she ranks #1 in rebounds in the North Coast Section. Aunika is one of the most athletic players of the North Coast Section, not to mention one of the tallest. Sheis a very tough player to guard, and to score on. Aunika is always giving her 100% effort on both ends of the court. I’m excited to see what she brings to the table during her Junior year.
Lauren Green- (2022), So, PG & SG, 5”8’, #32, Castro Valley High School (Castro Valley, CA)
Most players get me excited to write about them, and Lauren Green is one of those players. She has great shooting form and a keen awareness of her surroundings. She always knows when a defender is on her, and she also knows when she has an open shot. Let me tell you, if she has an open shot, she is taking it. Her shooting has very high accuracy, I believe this is due to the fact that she is smart about when to shoot. She has one of the quickest jump shots I have seen. Lauren was team captain as a sophomore, and I’m not surprised. Green averaged 12.2 PPG, 9.0 RPG, and 5.7 SPG. She plays with lots of control and never does anything rash that will cause a turnover. Lauren is always one of the most athletic players on the court, and her ball-handling skills are superb. Lauren Green is one of the top players in the North Coast Section, and I’m excited to see the rest of her basketball career.
Maya Pollard- 2022, 5”6’, Shooting Guard, #10, San Leandro High School (San Leandro, CA)
Maya Pollard is a very competitive player. Her shooting form is outstanding, as I have mentioned before. She is always looking to create opportunities for her teammates, she is a very selfless player. Maya became captain of her team as a sophomore, and that doesn’t surprise me one bit. She helped lead her team to a 10-0 league record. She averaged 11.6 PPG, and scored a total of 347 points during the 2019-2020 season. She also scored a total of 83 three-pointers this past season. You can tell she has tried to perfect her shooting form, and her accuracy is on point. Her dribbling is also something to mention, she can dribble past multiple players on a fast break without any issue. Maya is a very driven player, and I know she is committed to every play. She plays with some cleverness, and everything she does on the court is well-thought-out. Maya plays with every inch of effort she has, and it shows. I’m excited to see her play during the rest of her high school career.
Kelly Tumlin- 2022, Guard, #3, California High School (San Ramon, CA)
Kelly Tumlin is an amazing shooter, she is one of the best in the East Bay Athletic League. Her shooting range is unbelievable. Not only does she have a great shooting form, but she also has a very quick release. Most of her shots are nothing but net, and we all know those are the best kind of shots to make. Kelly averaged 9.9 PPG, and scored a total of 286 points during her sophomore season. Most of the points she makes are threes, but her effectiveness around the outer rim contributes greatly to her team’s success. Her field goal percentage is 45%, she has a three-point percentage of 39%, and a free throw percentage of 63%. She is very smart with the ball. She’ll never shoot under pressure, or if she doesn’t need to. She is one of a kind when it comes to shooting. Kelly will always be known as one of the most successful shooters in the Bay Area. I can’t wait to see what she has in store for us during her Junior and Senior season.
