It’s never too early for too-early-season. With fall sports and school underway, it’s only a matter of time before the winter sports season is upon us.
With that in mind, here’s a look at some of the top forwards in Region 4
Morgan Freije, Langdon/Edmore/Munich
Freije emerged as a legitimate scoring option for a loaded LEM team last year, helping lead the Cardinals to a state championship. She’ll be even more heavily featured in the offense as a junior and she’s got the athleticism, size and skill to make life difficult for the opposition. She’s a solid shooter, slasher and passer plus an outstanding defender. Don’t be surprised if she makes a big jump as an upperclassman.
[player_tooltip player_id="198290" first="Ezura" last="Rainbow"], Four Winds/Minnewaukan
Rainbow averaged 12 points and eight rebounds as a sophomore, helping the Indians win their district title and reach the region championship. She’s a double-double threat every night out and her ability to finish inside while defending and rebounding at a high level anchors the Four Winds defense.
[player_tooltip player_id="198292" first="Mahpiya" last="Jackson"], Four Winds/Minnewaukan
Jackson joins Rainbow up front to form one of the best interior duos in the state. She averaged 12 points and eight rebounds and is one of the most efficient players in the area. She’s got a hot motor and a solid ability to finish around the rim. The Indians are losing two perimeter starters from last season and likely headed towards an identity shift built on feeding their top-notch post tandem.
Kaylee Lowery, Langdon/Edmore/Munich
Lowery has been a key player for the Cardinals each of the last two seasons and while her numbers have not been eye-popping, her ability to influence the game on both ends of the floor is among the best in the region. She’s a top-notch defender who sets the tone for an elite-level defensive team and she does a lot of the dirty work on the offensive end. She may put up better scoring numbers but don’t expect a go-to scorer - but her impact on winning goes far beyond whatever kind of point totals she puts up.
[player_tooltip player_id="99805" first="Brailyn" last="Davis"], Dunseith
Davis put up monster numbers as a sophomore for the Dragons, averaging better than 13 points and nearly 14 rebounds. She’s a solid defender in the paint who can control the game on that end of the floor. If she takes another jump as a scorer, the Dragons could be a darkhorse contender in Region 4.
Hollie Emory, Dakota Prairie
Emory is a breakout candidate in the region this upcoming season, after averaging eight points and better than seven rebounds as a sophomore. The Knights lost some key scoring pieces from last year’s teams, so Emory could be a much more heavily featured player this winter. Expect double-double type production.
