These certainly weren’t the only shining sophomores on the day, but here are five who make up the All-2023 team, once again without the MVP listed.
Addie Lloyd, 5-5 Franklin
Still developing her game, but I loved the way she was in command on the court from the point guard spot. Has good hands and the ability to run the offense effectively in different styles of play. Addie (pictured right) did well in transition as most of the day was uptempo, and she ran the court well and distributed the ball to the right person. Does have a nice perimeter game, and can slash and has a knack of scoring on the floater in the paint. Her game will continue to grow as her production looks to increase at the high school level this winter.
Mya Latham, 5-5 Lutheran East
This kid can score in a multitude of different ways. She showed good range from the perimeter with the ability to knock down the open outside shots, and can also score by slashing to the rim using her athleticism. She has good body control when she penetrates around the rim, and can finish well with both hands. Mya (pictured left) can play in the transition game and pushes the ball with good speed on the break to give her team an advantage in an uptempo style of play.
Angelina Agresta, 5-9 Walsh Jesuit
She has a motor that won’t stop. Her high energy style of play allows her to constantly work hard and move well without the basketball. For being s sophomore, she plays above her years and is a good leader on the floor. Angelina (pictured right) can score at the rim with good control, and I expect her to get better and stronger as her game improves. She is an athletic guard who could work on creating her own shot. She does have good range on her perimeter game.
Era Bengu, 5’3 Mayfield Heights
This small but mighty package was impressive in the games I saw her play. Era (main photo above) showed impressive range with a good perimeter shot. She can anticipate well on defense and can make plays happen for her team with her instincts and smart floor game. She has a high motor and her energy allows her team to capitalize on what she creates. Scrappy and knows where to be on the floor.
Samantha Bardonaro, 5-8 Vandalia-Butler
Definitely not the first time I have seen this sparkplug guard, as she just continues to improve. She has always been known as an outstanding perimeter shooter, but her game continues to grow and she can help her team in multiple ways. Sami (pictured left) handles the ball well, can pass with either hand and involves her teammates. Good floor leader, moves well and is a step ahead of the play. She showed a lot of promise as a freshman, now it’s go time for the super sophomore.
