Nebraska High School Girls Basketball is overflowing with talent. There are tons of incredible athletes, knockdown shooters, strong posts, etc. One skill that is oftentimes more rare is finding players who make those around them better. They are the ones who are setting up teammates for shots - the ones who care more about their team getting the best shot possible than they do about their own stat line. The skill of playmaking is one of the most transferable to the college level, because it indicates that a player is ready to be surrounded by other great players. It also indicates a level of unselfishness that will make someone a great teammate at any level. Here are some of the best playmakers across Nebraska High School Girls Basketball. [player_tooltip player_id="94392" first="Allison" last="Weidner"] | St. Francis High School | 5’9 Senior | Guard [player_tooltip player_id="94392" first="Allison" last="Weidner"] is a major scoring threat. She is skilled and shifty and finishes in a variety of creative ways, from in the lane out to the three point line. She draws a lot of attention from opposing defenses, and she capitalizes on it. Weidner is averaging around 7 assists per game over the course of the last three years. She has turned her scoring ability into a playmaking ability. She oftentimes draws two or three defenders by penetrating deep into the lane and then finds a teammate for a wide open shot. For someone with so much talent and scoring ability, she plays very unselfishly. [player_tooltip player_id="94397" first="Aanaya" last="Harris"] | Burke High School | 6’0 Senior | Forward [player_tooltip player_id="94397" first="Aanaya" last="Harris"] is a talented scorer. She has a smooth stroke from three and finishes creatively through contact in the lane. These skills contribute to her ability to create for her teammates. Her skill, size, length, and athleticism make her a focal point for opposing defenses, and these skills also make her an excellent passer. Harris is a 6’0 forward with many of the skills of a guard. She leads the break and dishes to teammates, and has the ability to see the whole floor and drop dimes through a sea of defenders. [player_tooltip player_id="94450" first="Sidney" last="Swanson"] | West Point-Beemer High School | 5’6 Senior | Guard [player_tooltip player_id="94450" first="Sidney" last="Swanson"] has a quick gun. And she can get it off from just about anywhere on the floor. As a result, every defense is playing one step closer to her at all times, and this causes the floor to open up. Swanson has shifty ball-handling skills that get her into the lane, and her impressive court vision allows her to constantly find open teammates. Averaging three assists per game, her combination of scoring and spacial awareness on the court make her a player coaches want to run their offense through. [player_tooltip player_id="94405" first="Jillian" last="Aschoff"] | Pius X High School | 5’6 Senior | Point Guard [player_tooltip player_id="94405" first="Jillian" last="Aschoff"] is a born floor general. She is quick, constantly surveying the court, and every pass she throws is on a frozen rope. She is a scoring threat herself, shooting the three consistently and using finesse and touch around the basket. Aschoff has also played with a number of other major scoring threats, and through her 5.8 assists per game, she provided them with many opportunities to score. Her ability to play with other talented scorers and make plays for them will serve her well at the next level. [player_tooltip player_id="94483" first="Kali" last="Staples"] | Broken Bow High School | 5’7 Senior | Point Guard [player_tooltip player_id="94483" first="Kali" last="Staples"] does a little bit of everything for her team. She is active on defense, pulls down rebounds, leads the break in transition, shoots the three, and sinks high-arching floaters in the lane. What really sets her apart is that she is able to utilize all of these skills while also getting her teammates open shots. Staples averaged 5.7 assists per game as a junior, leading all of Class C1 teams. She has proven that the offense can flow through her, and she will make the right decisions and find the best shot possible. [player_tooltip player_id="94482" first="Gracie" last="Haneborg"] | North Platte High School | 5’8 Senior | Guard [player_tooltip player_id="94482" first="Gracie" last="Haneborg"] plays all-out all the time. She is a key piece of an offense that runs on lots of passing. She moves well without the ball and can knock down the three. Plus, Haneborg’s hands are always active on defense which leads to her averaging over 5 steals per game. Those steals often lead into her 4.4 assists per game as she leads the break and finds teammates for wide-open shots. Haneborg is a player with a motor and level of unselfishness that is rare to find at any level. Sydney Emanuel | North Bend-Central High School | 5’6 Sophomore | Point Guard Sydney Emanuel is a small, but scrappy guard. She constantly has active hands on defense, and her game is the definition of defense leading into offense. The bulk of her 3 assists per game come from getting steals, pushing the ball up the floor, and finding teammates. She has nailed down the art of making the pass at the exact right moment - not too early or too late - and it leads to teammates getting wide open layups.
