3 Peaks started things off in Utah with a tough battle against a TSYA-Shine team based out of Tacoma, WA where their teamwork was tested in a huge way as they battled to come back from a 16-3 deficit. Bowles had a nice entry pass into Bledsoe for a score as Paige Penzter converted on one free throw. Albrecht converted a tough floater in the lane and Peyton Garnder sank a three that cut the lead to 8-16. [player_tooltip player_id="204593" first="Paige" last="Pentzer"] followed up with a tough offensive board and up as on the following possession, Albrecht stole it and threw it up to Overcash who found Albrecht for a jumper. [player_tooltip player_id="204593" first="Paige" last="Pentzer"] found another offensive board and converted two free throws as 3 Peaks was in good shape, heading to the half trailing only 18-23. To open things in the second half, [player_tooltip player_id="204590" first="Jenna" last="Albrecht"] had a strong take to the basket as [player_tooltip player_id="204593" first="Paige" last="Pentzer"] had a tough finish in the paint despite the defense hounding her. Peyton Garnder had another timely three, tying the game at 25 apiece. [player_tooltip player_id="158509" first="Healy" last="Bledsoe"] followed it up with an offensive board put back as 3 Peaks took its first lead of the game at 27-25. Paige converted two free throws and a Kacie Booster steal led to a foul as she converted both extra points. [player_tooltip player_id="204593" first="Paige" last="Pentzer"] had another offensive rebound/putback and Kacie Booster followed with a jumper. Booster found Bledsoe inside for a score in the paint. The play of the game came from Kacie Booster, as Bledsoe found her along the arc for a three-pointer that single handedly put the game out of reach as 3 Peaks led at 39-36. With some superior inside defense and a Paige Penzter lay-up, 3 Peaks took this game after trailing immensely within the first few minutes in huge fashion as they walked away with a 44-41 victory. Stats: [player_tooltip player_id="158509" first="Healy" last="Bledsoe"]: 4 points, 10 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 steals Faye Davis: 1 rebound [player_tooltip player_id="158535" first="Peyton" last="Gardner"]: 6 points, 2 rebound, 1 steal [player_tooltip player_id="204593" first="Paige" last="Pentzer"]: 13 points, 8 rebounds, 2 steals [player_tooltip player_id="204590" first="Jenna" last="Albrecht"]: 6 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal Julia Towle: 4 points, 6 rebounds, 1 assist Kacie Booster: 6 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals Overcash: 1 assist, 2 steals Laci Penzter: 2 points, 2 rebounds Breakdown: Tough Interior Defense 3 Peaks understood that if they were to make any sort of attempt at a comeback, it would be through a gritty defensive stance. This came in strides throughout both halves, as [player_tooltip player_id="158509" first="Healy" last="Bledsoe"] provides tremendous wingspan and players like Pentzer and Albrecht are rough around the edges, as this trio made it particularly difficult for the opposition to score. Peyton Garnder is a ferocious on-ball defender with a high motor and Kacie Booster and Julia Towle are key contributors to the defensive scheme as well. They packed the paint and rebounded well as they had 3 players with 7 rebounds or more. Offensive Rebounding This group scored a lot of points on second chance opportunities, led by [player_tooltip player_id="204593" first="Paige" last="Pentzer"]’s relentless rebounding on the offensive end as she led their efforts on this charge. They scrapped under the hoop as they understood that they would have to put everything on the line to get the ball through the net. [player_tooltip player_id="158509" first="Healy" last="Bledsoe"] led all rebounders with 10 as many of these came on the offensive end including a sequence where she rebounded her own miss twice to put it back in for a hefty two point effort. All-Around Play 3 Peaks had four players with 6 points or more as the collective certainly dispersed the wealth, led by Paige Penzter’s 13. Pentzer and Albrecht were self-sufficient in the paint, as they scored through an array of tough shots amongst a thick defense. Kacie Booster was the x-factor as she routinely made plays for others and stepped up when her team needed her the most, sinking a huge three that clinched them the victory. [player_tooltip player_id="158535" first="Peyton" last="Gardner"]’s two threes came in big stretches, providing momentum for her team to continue the battle. Through thick and thin, this was a victory that was won by a team effort on the offensive end.
