The Class of 2022 is headlined by a number of quality wings, forwards, and posts, but if you ignore the point guards, you are going to miss some of the more entertaining prospects in this class. Whether it’s steady and efficient play you like, shooting/scoring from all levels, or grit at the defensive end of the floor, this class seems to possess each of those type of floor generals. Below is a look at the 37 point guards who currently reside in our Class of 2022 Top-175 rankings, along with a review of seven of those prospects who have been singled out for a trait we think they do better than anyone else on this list. We will be following this article with one on each of the other position groups in the Class of 2022 very soon.
Best Feel For The Game
When I think of having a feel for the game, not only do I think of someone who is somewhat versatile, but I also think of a player who understands which play to make in each situation. Over the course of this Summer, I feel like

Columbus East | 2022

of Columbus East played with the best feel for the game of anyone on the above list. She has grown as a player over the years, transitioning from more of a pure shooter/scorer in 8th Grade to where she is today as a true leader on the floor. She is tough-nosed, gritty, and plays with a motor. She can still shoot it with range, finish at the basket, and score it in bunches. But she’s so much more efficient, aware, and poised than in the past, and she has really helped her recruiting because of it.
Best Playmaker
This was a tough call, because there are a number of girls who could fall into this category. At the end of the day, though, I went with who I thought could effect the game at both ends of the floor equally well, who could create off the bounce for herself or others, and who could knock down shots at all three levels.

of Fort Wayne South Side is that player, plus she brings a real entertainment value to the game. She is a walking “and-1”, as she constantly gets defenders off-balance with her yo-yo type of handle and finishes through contact at the rim, plus she can find teammates through the smallest of openings. I also felt like she really increased her defensive awareness and intensity this Summer.
Best Shooter
There are a number of girls in this position group who shoot in the upper 30s and low 40s percentage-wise from behind the arc, which obviously made selecting this category more difficult. But, when you look at different types of shots, I felt like
Hadley Lytton

Heritage Hills | 2022

of Heritage Hills is about as complete of a shooter as you will find. She shoots over 40% from 3-point range, over 80% from the free throw line, and she has a nice one-dribble and two-dribble pull-up in the mid-range game. If she gets any space and gets her feet set around the perimeter, she’s almost automatic. I think if she could improve her shot selection just a little bit even, she could be in the upper 40-percentile from 3-point range. While she might not have a big name statewide, she is well-known in Southwestern Indiana.
Best Scorer
While a few of these categories were somewhat difficult to select, I felt like

Crown Point | 2022

of Crown Point was the obvious choice here. Jessica is a walking bucket, as she puts up big numbers just about every night. She is so strong and relentless attacking the basket, she almost always finishes through contact or at least earns repeated trips to the free throw line. She does a nice job of using her body and shielding the ball so she can get a shot away. She has a really nice mid-post pull-up as well, and while she doesn’t take a ton of perimeter jumpers, she has figured out how to be consistent out there. Having already exceeded 1100 points in her first two high school seasons, look for her to make a run at 2000 points sometime early in her Senior campaign.
Best Defender
If you would have asked me about this category back in June, I might not have had a certain answer. But following her play in July and August, I feel like
Tanyuel Welch

North Central (Indianapolis) | 2022

of Indianapolis North Central is not only the best defender of this group, she could be an elite defender at the next level if she continues to work at it. Tanyuel has incredibly quick feet for a player at her height. That quickness, along with her anticipation, allows her to move at nearly the exact same time as the ball-handler, letting her almost dictate which direction the ball goes and frustrating opponents. When you consider her tremendous wingspan, it’s very difficult to turn the corner on her or even get passes away. Even in help-side, she does a nice job of using her length to discourage passes and get deflections/steals.
Best Motor
Once again, there are a number of prospects here who you could say play with nice motors. But one specific player stands out to me, and that’s
Teresa Maggio

of McCutcheon. Teresa is everywhere all the time. She flies around the floor with nonstop energy, making plays offensively and defensively for her team. Even when she doesn’t have the greatest of games from a statistical standpoint, I’m not sure you can ever question her effort or competitive fire. She is a creator/playmaker at the offensive end of the floor, always trying to break down defenders and collapse the defense. She can pick up and guard 84-feet as well, and she will constantly bother opposing ball-handlers. She rebounds her position well at her size, she dives on the floor for loose balls, plus she’s willing to take charges.
Most Under The Radar
I’m sure many prospects above think they are under-recruited, as that’s just a competitor’s mindset. So in this category I have chosen someone I doubt many of you are familiar with…kind of the whole point of being considered under the radar.

(2020) saw some minutes for Carmel’s Varsity in 2019-2020. However with the number of Seniors and other experienced perimeter players for the Greyhounds last year, Laura saw a lot of JV action. She is a long, fluidly athletic, smooth point guard prospect with a nice feel for the game. She has good vision and awareness, she can score it a little at all three levels, and she’s a really nice defender. Due to graduation losses, there’s a great opportunity for her to step up in 2020-2021.
