The 2023 rankings were released last week and there was some fresh faces added to the Top 10 list. These players were not ranked in last year’s edition of the class rankings so they may be a fresh face to some of the basketball enthusiast. .
#2 [player_tooltip player_id="208030" first="Myah" last="Verse"] (6’0’’, SG, Arizona Elite Prep) - Verse is so explosive on both ends of the court and she is one of the top elite athletes on the west coast. Her game is still rounding into form but the potential is there and her ceiling is extremely high. Verse should be a national level player by this time next year.
#4 [player_tooltip player_id="208047" first="Reilly" last="Clark"] (5’10’’, CG, Catalina Foothills) - Clark is one of the top pure shooters in the class. She has a tight handle and Clark makes solid decisions on the court. She is rather lean so a point of emphasis going forward will be to add strength to her frame. With continued development, she could be the next [player_tooltip player_id="136240" first="Jess" last="Finney"]...and that is sayin a lot. Clark had one of the better freshman seasons in the class as she led a young Catalina Foothills team in scoring. She is a hard worker and is always working on her game, so we expect big things from Clark.
#5 [player_tooltip player_id="138096" first="Kaitlyn" last="Elsholz"] (5’9’’, SG, Cactus Shadows) - Elsholz is a smooth performer who is just scratching the surface of her vast potential. She has great length and versatility and it appears that she will be able to play multiple positions for Cactus Shadows. Elsholz should have a breakout soph season as she posses the talent and her skillset is developing rapidly to turn into an impact player. She looks to still be growing. Elsholz is one to follow and her perceived potential is what landed her in this high spot.
#7 [player_tooltip player_id="208283" first="Reena" last="Bhakta"] (6’’, SF, Sunrise Mountain ) - Bhakta has been a post player in the past and she is now showing a more versatile game out to the arc. Her improvement over the past 9 months has been rather dramatic. She is one of the better inside scorers for the class and her ability to rebound the basketball out of area will make her a tough matchup going forward. Bhakta has a great frame, good length and she is a good athlete who is primed to be a solid college prospect over the next couple of years.
#9 [player_tooltip player_id="65617" first="Hannah" last="Young"] (5’11’’, SF, Xavier) Young had an outstanding summer playing for the AZ Select along side 2023 [player_tooltip player_id="138094" first="Bella" last="Barrett"]. Her confidence has grown leaps and bounds once she figured out what her strengths to the team were. Young excels in transition and she has shown the ability to make good decisions in close spaces inside the paint. Her perimeter game will still need to improve for the small forward position at the next level but we know she is putting in the work to make that happen. Young has a mean streak and she can be tenacious at times and that will serve her well as should looks to have an impact on the very talented Xavier program during her soph year.
#10 [player_tooltip player_id="208238" first="Madelynn" last="Muniz"] (5’9’’, CG, PHH Prep) - Muniz had an outstanding freshman season for Boulder Creek playing in a region with several of the top players in the state. She was always assigned to defend the best like on the other teams. Competing with player such as [player_tooltip player_id="136240" first="Jess" last="Finney"] and [player_tooltip player_id="136241" first="Ally" last="Stedman"] on a nightly basis. Muniz’ shot is pure and she is developing a scorers mentality. Training and competing against already committed 2021 players at PHH Prep will benefit her the most. We followed Muniz over the summer in Las Vegas and Denver and she had some impressive performances.
