The Way Basketball and Coach/Founder Deonte Tatum held an exciting league on Sunday that will run through November 8th. The league is stacked with talented prospects who compete against and with one another. Take a look at players who stood out on film from Week 1.
Nakiyah Hurst | Milwaukee Academy Of Science
Hurst has a high ceiling and a great feel for the game. Her spacing on the floor is well developed and she moves with purpose. She has great positional size and is definitely a three level scorer. Hurst scored 27 points and 6 rebounds in her team’s win. She has a pull up perimeter shot that has been super tough to stop. Hurst has advanced handles for her size and does well using her body to create space. She can hit the mid range jumper or attack and finish strong inside.
Alexis McNack | Milwaukee Lutheran
McNack’s scoring ability is elite. She is a smart player with a very high basketball IQ. Her shot selection shows she has experience playing high level basketball. She is patient and composed before attacking the rim. She finishes consistently and has a bag of finishing moves. McNack has a quick release from the perimeter and is comfortable knowing it down far behind the three point line. She can also create for her teammates and has phenomenal facilitating skills. McNack does exceptionally well finding post players in the lane in transition play. She finished the night with 20 points.
Jacia Cunningham | Milwaukee School of Languages
Cunningham is a gifted athlete with explosiveness on both ends of the floor. She has a quick first step and hesitation that leaves defenders at their feet. She has elite handles and is comfortable running the point guard and off ball position. She pushes the tempo in transition and can finish consistently against taller defenders. On defense she is scrappy and has well developed footwork. She works hard on both ends and is relentless on the boards. Cunningham is smart with the ball and rarely causes turnovers. She finished with 18 points and 10 rebounds.
Aleyah Jones | Milwaukee Riverside
Jones is a lightning quick guard. There are not many people that can stay in front of her because of her footwork and speed on the court. She is versatile and can score from many different spots on the floor. She has a smooth perimeter shot that has become more consistent as of late. She is a floor general with good vision and is often threading the needle with her passes. Her defensive potential is super high and she seems to be taking pride in getting stops and altering passes/shots.
Toniah Williams | Milwaukee Academy of Science
Williams is a unique talent with so much energy on the floor. She is a springy athlete that excels at the point guard position. Her athleticism for her size is unmatched, and she’s very tenacious when targeting the ball. Her fundamentals have improved greatly and she has become super shifty with the ball. Her handles are tight and she is beyond confident with the ball. She utilizes the float dribble incredibly well, which creates a very believable hesitation move. Her ability to create space with the dribble is impeccable and has great separation skills on the floor.
