This look at Kansas 2022 shooting guards committed to attend is the second of a series of player previews to enjoy as we build toward the action. Kansas 2022s will make up more than a third of the field of 79 players. In this article a seven shooting guards are profiled.
Caroline Cool, 5’6″, Blue Valley North — Currently unranked, Cool has solid, north-south speed with the ball. This perimeter shooter has solid range and can stop and pop quickly in transition with elevation. A heady, active defender with quick hands, Cool can finish with both hands at speed off the steal. She competes on the boards but boxing off the ball needs improvement. Cool, and her teammate Mary Crossland, will make their rankings debut with the next update.
Chais Chickaway Chais Chickaway 5'8" | SG Lawrence | 2022 KS , 5’8″, Lawrence — #92 Chickaway is a player I have been looking forward to learning more about since PGH’s Willie Dotson commented on her range and streakiness at the November, 2019 Lady Prospects Club’s exposure event.
Mary Crossland, 5’8″, Blue Valley North — While currently unranked, the lengthy Crossland can shoot quickly and with range. Combining a solid first step with shoulder fakes and other means she is able to get to the hole and finish athletically with both hands.
Gabriella Henderson-Artis Gabriella Henderson-Artis 5'10" | SF Bishop Miege | 2022 State KS , 5’10”, Bishop Miege — #44 Henderson-Artis was a standout at the September, 13, Wichita I-35 Exposure event. Long and athletic with the ball coaches homed in on her quickness and decisiveness with the ball off the bounce.
Aubrie Kierscht Aubrie Kierscht 5'6" | CG Salina Central | 2022 State KS , 5’3″, Salina Central — #9 Kierscht, and Talayah Thomas Talayah Thomas 5'6" | CG Topeka | 2022 State KS below, both appeared on my all-summer ball team of players I saw this summer. With the ability to score often and in many ways what cannot be overlooked is her ferocity as a defender. She sees the ball well and plays very physically. Kierscht earned Kansas Basketball Coaches Association 5A second team and Ark Valley Chisholm Trail League Div I first team honors in 2020.
Isis Sanders Isis Sanders 5'9" | SG Maize South | 2022 State KS , 5’8″, Wichita East — Besides being ranked #13 in the statewide class, much was shared about her as a Wichita area standout. Ranked #5, Sanders is making a point of improving three point consistency and overall quickness. Sanders is a player I have seen several times in the past year and she is physical, fast, and a dangerous scorer. She also distributes well to the hot hand. Sanders was a Greater Wichita League first team selection at Wichita Northwest a season ago.
Talayah Thomas Talayah Thomas 5'6" | CG Topeka | 2022 State KS , 5’6″, Topeka — #5 Thomas excelled at the 2019 Des Moines, Iowa, PGH Top 250 event last October. Not until late this summer did I see her again. While she needs to improve perimeter consistency, Thomas is difficulty to defend owing to her possession of strong handles and athletic scoring ability around the basket.
