One of the things the writers enjoy doing is discovering new talent, or players who may have been overlooked in past updates. Today, I will look at five newcomers to the rankings as they all debut on the Watch List of top 2021 players in Ohio.
[player_tooltip player_id="211744" first="Peyton" last="Nation"], 5-10 SF, Springboro
Very versatile player who can defend multiple positions on the floor. Hard nosed and always around the ball. Excellent rebounder and good hands around the basket. Has good range, can beat you in many ways. Good footwork and runs the floor well in transition. Very smart, heady basketball player with a bright future at the next level.
[player_tooltip player_id="211745" first="Taryn" last="Cash"], 5-6 PG, Princeton
As I mentioned before, Taryn is a much improved guard. She can run the show from the point guard spot and has explosive speed to get by her defender and score at the rim. Secures the ball well and can compete against the more physical kids. Super athletic and she positions herself well for the best shot. Smart player, good passer and very solid court vision.
[player_tooltip player_id="211746" first="Sparkle" last="Leigh"], 5-8 PG, Trotwood Madison
Was impressive when I saw her at the PGH Top 250 Expo as she played her position with a lot of poise and confidence. Sparkle (pictured above) ran the offense well and not only can score in a multitude of ways, she was also a solid on-ball defender. Played with a lot of grit and desire to be successful, her court presence was strong. Part of a very solid group at Trotwood with the likes of Q Huffman and [player_tooltip player_id="93553" first="Raeven" last="Raye-Redmond"], meaning the Rams are eyeing a trip back to the districts.
[player_tooltip player_id="211750" first="Madison" last="Cordonnier"], 5-10 G, New Bremen
Headed to the University of Findlay, Madison is a long and athletic knock down shooter who constantly moves without the ball. She is an excellent finisher around the basket with both hands. Plays with an extremely high motor and can defend all five positions on the floor. She also has a very high basketball IQ.
[player_tooltip player_id="211751" first="Abigail" last="Dickson"], 5-3 PG, Valley View
Just a hard nosed point guard who gets the job done for her team. She has always been around talented scorers, so she embraced her role as a distributor very well. Small sized but big skills, able to slash into the paint, or beat you with her consistent perimeter game. Like having a quarterback on the court, Abigail is the epitome of what a point guard is supposed to be like.
