As expected, the class of 2021 was well represented. With the high school season quickly approaching, this was one of the last opportunities for these seniors to make an impression, and many of them did exactly that. Let’s take a look at a few standout 2021 prospects from Sunday:
Evelyn Quiroz | 2021 | 5’6’’ Point Guard | Laredo United HS – Quiroz entered the expo as one of the most seasoned players in attendance. Her international experience with the Mexican U16 team was evident. The Laredo United guard is a gifted ball handler and playmaker. In my opinion, she was responsible for the best pass of the day: a gorgeous behind-the-back bounce pass that resulted in a transition assist. On top of her passing, Quiroz likes to play fast and push the tempo on offense. She displayed excellent body control and finishing ability at the basket.
Audry Hornaday | 2021 | 5’8’’ Combo Guard | Sharyland Pioneer HS – Hornaday is a high-energy player who is going to give you everything she has at both ends of the floor. She showed that she can shoot the three ball and score off dribble penetration with floaters and runners. Her facilitating was solid too. That said, the most impressive aspect of Hornaday’s expo performance to me was her leadership. She was constantly communicating with her teammates on the court and coaching them up on the sidelines. That is exactly what you want to see from a senior guard.
Crystal Smith Crystal Smith 5'7" | SG Tomkins | 2021 State TX | 2021 | 5’8’’ Shooting Guard | Tompkins HS – Smith is wired to score. She was able to do whatever she wanted to on Sunday. The senior two-guard really had it going. She drained the long ball off the dribble at a high clip, buried mid-range pull-ups, and consistently finished through contact when attacking the basket. She has a knack for manipulating leverage and freezing defenders with her hesitation dribble. Her ability to create space coupled with her shot-making capabilities allowed her to be extremely productive.
Caitlin Kobiske | 2021 | 5’11’’ Power Forward | Keller Central HS – Kobiske possesses solid size and length for the four spot. She displayed great upper body strength, scoring through contact on numerous occasions with defenders draped all over her. The 5-foot-11-inch forward does a good job of recognizing mismatches and exploiting smaller opponents when she has the size advantage. Additionally, Kobiske is a terrific offensive rebounder. She follows her shots and attacks the ball at its highest point.
Mckaylin Coffman | 2021 | 5’6’’ Shooting Guard | Royse City HS – Coffman was both efficient and effective on offense in Irving. She can shoot over closeouts thanks to her quick release and high arcing shot. The Royse City guard showed that she can knock down triples with a hand in her face. In the half court, she is a good spot-up shooter from deep and a willing passer who keeps the ball moving. Furthermore, she made some really nice plays in transition, such as converting a highly contested layup from an awkward angle as well as a few well-placed assists.
