It’s been well over 250 days since the last games took place in the state, and there is much anticipation for the 2020/21 season.
Prep Girls Hoops is going down the shore, taking a look at the Shore Conference in this multi-part series of players to watch, starting in the A Central division.
Tori Crovo, SG St. Rose: While a shooting guard, Crovo plays with attributes that of a point guard. Her passing stands out on film, someone who is willing to give up the ball, but someone who has great court awareness to do so. It’s impressive to watch. Along with that, she’s great at cutting to the basket, working off-ball for scoring opportunities. On defense, she presses up and plays tough, creating turnovers and allowing St. Rose to get on the break early and often.
Charley Rosen, PG Rumson-Fair Haven: The ball movement on Rumson-Fair Haven is truly a sight to see, and much of that starts with Rosen. She’s a wizard with the ball in her hands because somehow, some way, she’s creating easy scoring opportunities for her and her teammates. She looks like she could run the point and gel in any offense, which is a testament to her skills on the court. To top it off, she’s a pesky defender who can put anyone in her pocket, the total package for what you’re looking for in an elite point guard.
Grace Colucci, PG/SG Rumson-Fair Haven: Colucci, while playing behind Rosen at times, will see much more time on the court this season. She was used as an option off the bench last year for Rumson-Fair Haven, but she offers much more to the table, both running the point and shooting from long-range. It’s a dynamic package for a combo guard with her maturity level and with the team losing nearly 1/3rd of its scoring from its graduating seniors, Colucci will feature well into this offense which averaged just a shade over 55 PPG last season.
Georgia Heine Georgia Heine 5'10" | SG Manasquan | 2022 State NJ , SG/SF Manasquan: Heine is the arguable leader of a strong sophomore crop of players for Manasquan. Standing as a 6-0 flexible guard and forward, Heine is the best of both worlds on both sides of the ball. She showed off an impressive arsenal of shots, impressive range from the perimeter, and the ability to score at will. Her game is best suited for the paint, where she’s crashing the boards and swatting away shots. She can adjust anywhere on the floor on defense, an excellent defender overall and her ceiling is only going to continue to rise.
Brooke Hollawell Brooke Hollawell 5'6" | PG Manasquan | 2022 State NJ , PG/SG Manasquan: Not to be outdone, but Heine, for as elite of a player she is, Hollawell was the team’s leading scorer last season and their best three-point shooter, with over twice as many made triples as her next-closest teammate. She compliments Heine well at the point, but also on the perimeter. She’s quick to get up and down the floor, an asset on offense on the break and on defense, backtracking to prevent an odd-man fast break. Hollawell is the perfect combo guard and is going to be a monster for Manasquan this season.
