Teams have been preparing through quarantine and the wait of over 250 days with no games is nearly over, and there’s a lot of talent throughout the state to look at.
Prep Girls Hoops is going down the shore in New Jersey, taking a look at the Shore Conference in this multi-part series of juniors to watch, continuing in the A North division.
Samantha Slofkiss, PF/C Marlboro: Slofkiss makes her presence felt in the paint and she uses her size to her advantage. Currently 5-11, she thrives when she crashes the boards. When the ball gets to her on offense, she creates space for shots, jump hooks or simple layups, or draws contact to go to the line. On defense, she’s agile, moving across the inside of the perimeter, forcing bad shots or blocking shot attempts. Expect Slofkiss’s presence to be felt even more this season for Marlboro.
Dani Schlesinger Dani Schlesinger 5'9" | CG Marlboro | 2022 State NJ , SG/SF Marlboro: Schlesinger plays with tenacity on the floor. She’s a multi-dimensional player and scorer, seemingly scoring at will from anywhere on the court. She does a great job at drawing contact as she gets herself into the lane and it’s impressive watching her shot selection on offense. Schlesinger is a great passer and when it comes to her defense, she’s everywhere and anywhere at once, causing turnovers, pressing offensive possessions and making her opponents uncomfortable when she’s guarding them.
Renee Wells, SF Middletown South: Wells is a shot creator and a facilitator on the court. Something that stood out on tape was her passing prowess, watching her survey the defense and pick out her teammate for an open look. It’s a testament to her court awareness. She can also shoot the lights out, spotting up from deep with impressive range. On defense, Wells is a staunch defender, swatting away shots and taking away possession off the dribble.
Isabella Orlando, PF/SF Middletown South: Orlando thrives in clutch moments and wants the spotlight shined on her. While listed as a power forward, she looks more comfortable as a small forward, but she’s a versatile player on the court. She has range from the perimeter but can also dominate inside the arc and in the paint. Orlando plays tough-nosed defense and flips the floor, creating a lot of scoring opportunities for Middletown South from a steal or block on the defensive end.
Alex Magliozzo, G/F Freehold Township: Magliozzo is expected to have a much bigger role for Freehold Township this season, but showed glimpses of what she can contribute last season. She’s agile on the court and plays great off-ball defense, often creating turnovers leading to fast break opportunities. When she gets the ball on offense, she’s confident and shoots the ball well, especially from deep. Magliozzo, with more time on the court, will be a sure-fire scoring option for Freehold.
