The hype is real, especially in New Jersey, where some of the nation’s top talent plays and some of the most competitive basketball anywhere.
Prep Girls Hoops continues a look down the shore, showcasing more juniors to watch in the Shore Conference, going over to the A South division.
Amber Williams, C Jackson Memorial: Williams is returning on a Jackson Memorial team that was a perfect 20-0 in conference play and she’s going to be quite the presence on the floor. Playing that more traditional center role, she’s a dominant force in the middle of the paint, both scoring in bunches on offense and swatting away shots on defense. She plays with a swagger, a sense of confidence that plays really well on this team that was one of the top three teams in the conference last season.
Kelleen Sullivan, PG/SG Toms River East: Sullivan is what you are looking for in a combo guard, playing at the top of the key. She’s a great defender, someone who can disrupt the game on defense, create turnovers off steals and just be a nuisance. On offense, she shines as a facilitator, a shot creator and a pure scorer, which just adds to a very loaded Toms River East team. Her role will only grow on this team so watch out for what she’s going to do this season.
Gia Pissott, PF/C Toms River North: The Toms River North junior class is stacked and Piscott is their big presence in the middle. Already as a junior, she’s 6-3, and she’ll grow into her frame, getting stronger, of which she’s already shown a lot of promise in. She goes up strong to the rim and has a lot of range for a center, almost playing as a stretch five. She takes up a lot of space in the paint, a living nightmare for opponents, and this season, she’s going to shine on this team that will be contesting for a 20-win season.
Sydney Howell, PG/SG Toms River North: Howell is the combo guard, the leading guard in this Toms River North junior class and she’s the best of both worlds at the point. She commands the point well, able to survey the court and either pick out her shot or find an open teammate. She helps create space for herself and others for a lot of scoring opportunities. Howell also guards the perimeter well on defense, allowing little to no dribble penetration into the lane. That combination of great perimeter shooting and a knack for scoring, plus shut-down defense, elevates her above her competition.
Kayla Krzyzkowski, C Central Regional: Krzyzkowski has all the making of a strong defensive center with a knack for scoring. She’s an impressive defender, very agile moving around the lane and that agility has allowed her to disrupt the flow of the game for the opposition, causing bad shots or block opportunities of which she’s one of the best on the team. Now in her junior season, Krzyzkowski is going to really help bolster a Central Regional team that was slightly above .500 last year and should be competing for the best in the division this season.
