New Jersey is one of the places where this anticipation, this excitement, has really peaked, as some of the best talent anywhere has been ready to play.
Prep Girls Hoops continues a look down the shore, showcasing more juniors to watch in the Shore Conference, continuing in the A South & B Central division.
Jaclyn Benvenuto, PF Toms River North: Benvenuto is a really strong presence down low on the block. She thrives when she gets the ball in the paint, pushing her way to the basket, creating space for herself to score. That works on the opposite end of the floor on defense, where she doesn’t get backed down by opponents. She holds her positioning and makes it a nightmare for the opposition to try to score or even get up a good shot.
Martine Chevalier, PG Central Regional: Chevalier will be getting much more playing time and much more of the load on offense with guard Mercedes Corbin having graduated last year. She’s going to be sharing the ball with three seniors at the point, but with the second-most assists on the team last season, she’s going to be relied upon a lot more. Chevalier is an excellent defender and led the team in steals, so she’ll continue to disrupt the opposition. On offense, she’s a facilitator and a shooter. She can really do it all.
Savannah Eichert, SF Brick Township: Eichert is going to be helping to fill some massive voids left in this Brick Township program, losing nearly 90 percent of their scoring from a big senior class. That’s going to give Eichert plenty more playing time and she’s going to relish in the spotlight for the Dragons. She’s someone who is a well-balanced player, able to crash the boards and pick up rebounds, create turnovers from steals or bad passes, and push the tempo of the game on offense with some efficient shooting. She will have a big role this season.
Faith Wavershak, PG Toms River North: Wavershak is a key member of this Toms River North junior class, a strong option at the point guard position. She doesn’t allow for much lane penetration when her opponent has the ball at the top of the key and often, will create turnovers off a steal, just picking off the dribble. Wavershak likes to drive into the lane on offense and really thrives on close-range shots and drawing contact, really a solid, all-around guard.
Haven Dora, G Trinity Hall: Dora possesses a multitude of attributes that allows her to be a versatile player on the floor. It starts with her defense, someone who is a pesky defender on the ball and a disruptor off the ball that helps to cause a multitude of turnovers. She fills up the score sheet, scoring in bunches, competing on the boards and getting all of her teammates involved. Expect Dora to help this Trinity Hall team dominate the top of B Central.
