Prep Girls Hoops has been taking a close look at the Shore Conference, one of the deepest high school athletic conferences in the state, at junior standouts to keep an eye on for this season.
This is the final part of a 10-part series, finishing up in the B South division.
Mackenzie Kopf, F Donovan Catholic: Kopf was an inside force for Donovan Catholic last season, scoring exclusively inside the arc and crashing the boards. The Griffins lost over 350 total rebounds from last season’s senior class and Kopf, who hauled in 67 boards in 19/20, will be relied on, along with junior teammate Olivia Conroy and senior Jordyn Keating, to fill that void, Kopt especially as that paint presence.
Erika Marinelli, PG Point Pleasant Boro: Marinelli is Point Pleasant Boro’s three-point specialist, though senior guard Lila Shaver led the team with 36 made threes last season. She made twice as many threes on the season, averaging just over one made per game in 19/20. They actively look for her on offense to get open for a clean look and she’s confident shooting the long ball, which is increasingly more important coming into this season. Marinelli should score in the triple-digits for total points and will be among the leaders if not the leader in perimeter shooting.
Kya Joseph Kya Joseph 5'7" | SG Barnegat | 2022 State NJ , SF Barnegat: Joseph is the unquestionable leader of this Barnegat team that is returning everyone this season after having no graduating seniors in 19/20. The lack of veteran leadership hurt the Bengals, who went 4-10 in the division, but Joseph, with another year under her belt, is going to bring prominence to the program. She was far and away the team’s highest scorer, rebounder, three-point shooter and foul shooter, averaging a double-double on the season with 18.3 PPG and 10.4 RPG. Joseph can play and is going to dominate for Barnegat this season.
Molly Burns, SG Point Pleasant Boro: Burns is another solid guard option for Point Pleasant Boro who can shoot from the outside but can also do the dirty work inside, rebounding and creating turnovers from steals. She’s also a shot facilitator, recording the second-most assists for the Panthers in 19/20. Burns has great court vision and excellent passing skills, and she should be getting more open looks on offense along with heftier assist totals.
Bridget Dudas, SG Pinelands: Dudas was really the lone bright spot for Pinelands last season, who had a difficult time trying to gel and stay on track in B South. She is a shot creator, weaving her way into the lane for more high-percentage and high-efficiency shot attempts. She is expected to help carry this Pinelands team this season along with the senior tandem of guard Skylar Callahan and forward Emily Fence. She still has two full years of maturation left, but expect her to get some looks come January.
