Prep Girls Hoops has been profiling some of the best juniors to watch in the conference during this season.
This multi-part series continues in the B South division, which should be exciting to watch as the season progresses.
Amyah Bray, G Manchester Township: Bray is an aggressive playmaker with a knack to dazzle on the floor. As a sophomore she was third on the team in scoring and rebounding and she led the team in made three pointers. She’s going to take much of the load left by Kemary Reynolds, who led the team in steals and assists last season. Bray has the potential to average double-digits in the scoring column while increasing her steals and assists per game ratio significantly.
Olivia Conroy, PG/SG Donovan Catholic: Conroy is someone that can drive to the rim, control the game speed and tempo when she’s playing the point and create space for her own shot. Her intensity is felt on the court and it rubs off on her teammates. She was Donovan Catholic’s third-leading scorer last season and will be taking on a much larger role with Olivia Parlow and Tatjana Tater graduating in the spring. Conroy draws contact at the rim and gets to the foul line often so expect plenty more of her making things happen in the paint this season.
Genevieve Fara, PG/SF/PF Point Pleasant Boro: Fara is the player to watch out for on this Point Pleasant Boro team this season. A combination of speed, shooting efficiency and tenacity, she’s versatile and can switch off positions, allowing her to create mismatches on the floor. She backs down defenders and pushes the ball into the lane for more sure-fire scoring opportunities. On defense, don’t let her 5-7 height fool you as someone who can’t be an inside presence because she’s not only creating turnovers off of steals, she’s working back and blocking shots with ease.
Jessica Cannestro, C/PF Jackson Liberty: Cannestro plays the more traditional center role for Jackson Liberty and is one of two go-to rebounders for this team and the go-to rim protector/shot blocker. She dominates in the middle and exclusively relies on the two-point, close-range shot. Expect her to draw in defenders and draw contact when she gets the ball down low as one of the team’s leading free throw shooters and flirt with double-double averages for this season.
Shelby Barksdale, G/F Donovan Catholic: Barksdale, formerly of Mater Dei Prep, transferred to Donovan Catholic for the 2020/21 season onward. She was Mater Dei’s second-leading scorer last season and their leading rebounder, so she’s bringing a lot to the table for a program that finished second to Manchester Township last year. Barksdale is a proven scorer, someone who cuts into the lane for open looks early and often in games. She can shoot the ball from the outside, but the paint is where she’s best on offense, an absolute scoring machine.
