Depending who you ask, St. John’s Vianney was either the top or second-best squad in the state last year. With their entire roster returning, the Lancers are easily the No. 1 team this year.
Leading the way is junior Madison St. Rose Madison St. Rose 5'10" | PG St. John Vianney | 2022 State #65 Nation NJ . She can play either guard spot and was last year’s state Player of the Year. She can get to the cup, has a great pull-up, hits the three-ball and is a lock-up defender. There are few, if any, holes in her game. She is the definition of a two-way player.
Katie Hill Katie Hill 6'0" | SF St. John Vianney | 2021 State NJ , a senior, who has verbally committed to Richmond, is the heart and soul of St. John’s Vianney. Standing 6-0, she has the size to be the physical banger for the Lancers. She defends bigger players, rebounds, screens, talks and is the leader on the floor. She can get to the rim and hit the long ball. There is a lot to like about her game.
Emma Bruen is one of the best on-the-ball defenders in the state. She can play both guard positions, excels at getting into the heart of the defense and is an underrated playmaker.
Megan Cahalan, who recently committed to Holy Cross, has quietly emerged as one of the best bigs in the state. Like everyone who suits up for SJV, she excels on the defensive end of the court. She can defend forwards and centers, and always seems to be in the right position on the floor.
Mikaela Hubbard Mikaela Hubbard 6'2" | PF St. John Vianney | 2023 State NJ , who is a sophomore, moves extremely well for a 6-3 forward. She runs the floor, crashes the boards and seemed to gain more confidence on the offensive end this summer.
Ashley O’Connor will be counted on to provide a scoring punch. The 5-8 sophomore is another tough defender capable of shutting down opposing team’s ball handlers.
