NC Watchlist C/O 2022: Charlotte Area Guards

These athletes are looking forward to showing off their talents this year and certainly deserve the eyes of college coaches. [player_tooltip player_id="219872" first="Mariah" last="Barrie"] | CG | Central Cabarrus Barrie has made significant impacts for her high school team in her short career so far, and I am sure that is only going to continue to increase. She is smooth handling the ball making sure to create separation between her and her defender even though she can certainly drive against any kind of contact that is waiting for her close to the basket. She does an excellent job driving all the way to the basket or setting herself up for a jump shot from anywhere on the court. When she doesn’t have the ball, she moves well into the gaps on defense in order for her to find ways to contribute. She remains calm throughout the game no matter what the score is, and she does an excellent job directing her teammates where to go in order to get them the ball to score. She moves her body well in order to make the best passes, and she uses that vision on defense in order to jump into passing lanes to grab steals. In addition to handling the ball, she has a nice shot from all over the court showing that she is a threat in many areas. She moves well without the ball to find the gaps in the defense, and she knows how to handle the ball well in order to create separation. She can drive the ball, and she is a threat on fast breaks knowing how to score well in transition. Her hustle in transition serves her well on defense as she does not let opponents score. She does a great job following the ball after shots to contribute rebounds for her team, too. [player_tooltip player_id="219811" first="Janey" last="Thompson"] | CG | Myers Park Thompson does an excellent job slowing down opposing offenses, and she uses that to create her own offense. She can handle the ball well using various moves to get by her opponents or get them separated from her as she shows off her shot. She can handle the ball against any kind of pressure, too. She is ready to shoot anytime in order to contribute for her team, and she knows where to move in order to find the open areas of the court. Her quick release makes it difficult to defend, and she does not shy away from contact. She keeps her eyes peeled for her teammates, too, while she is handling the ball and moving around attempting to get the play going.
