That is also a testament to the developmental programs and coaching we have in this area. Therefore, I think players are better prepared for the grind of the high school game. Moreover, the tools utilized throughout these years should give players an edge in college.
Putting together the list below was challenging. I think a prospect on a second or third team here would be an elite selection in other parts of Florida. If I broke this list down by class, you would see a strong contingent of D-1 talent.
Let’s jump into this list…
Tatyana Wyche Tatyana Wyche 6'2" | C American Heritage | 2021 State FL / Taliyah Wyche Taliyah Wyche 6'2" | C American Heritage | 2021 State FL – American Heritage Patriots (Plantation)
The Wyche twins have mixed pure dominance with championship success over their first three seasons with the Patriots. The 6-foot-3 2021 forwards both averaged double-doubles as juniors en route to another state title. An elusive fourth-straight championship is well within their grasp. The sisters can impact the game in so many ways, beyond the box score tallies. The Florida commits can alter/differ an opponents strategy with their presence alone. The accolades for the pair will only continue to grow when they move up to Gainesville. My advice, make more room in the trophy case at home.
Etaria Gibbons Etaria Gibbons 6'0" | SF Northeast | 2022 State FL – Northeast Hurricanes
2022 Etaria Gibbons Etaria Gibbons 6'0" | SF Northeast | 2022 State FL is an invaluable asset to her team. The 6-foot wing averaged 16.4 points, 11.4 rebounds, 3.3 steals and 1.5 steals per game for the Hurricanes last season. For further context, Gibbons averaged more rebounds on the offensive than defensive glass. As I said from the jump, Gibbons is going to create more opportunities and possessions for her teammates with those numbers. The Hurricanes captain brings effort and tenacity on the floor from the opening tip to the final buzzer. Look for her to lead Northeast past its 13-9 overall record last season due to her play and leadership.
Samara Spencer Samara Spencer 5'8" | CG St Thomas Aquinas | 2021 State FL – St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders
2021 Samara Spencer Samara Spencer 5'8" | CG St Thomas Aquinas | 2021 State FL is another local star taking her talents to the SEC next season. The 5-foot-8 combo guard committed to the Arkansas Razorbacks last fall. Spencer averaged 16.6 points, 5.9 rebounds and four assists for the Raiders last season. Fayetteville is getting an electric player in the backcourt that will makes plays on a routine basis. The Raiders lost a tightly contested battle to Blanche Ely in the Class 6A regional semifinal last season. Spencer should be motivated to leave out on top as a senior.
Ja’Leah Williams Ja’Leah Williams 5'9" | CG Blanche Ely | 2021 State FL – Blanche Ely Tigers
2021 Ja’Leah Williams Ja’Leah Williams 5'9" | CG Blanche Ely | 2021 State FL is listed as the top player in our local senior rankings. The Miami Hurricanes commit averaged 16.4 points, 7.2 rebounds and 4.1 steals as a junior for the Tigers. Williams has superb athleticism that makes her a match-up problem at both guard positions. Blanche Ely went 28-6 and won the Class 6A state championship with her at the helm. That type of success mixed with talent gives her the edge here over some of her peers.
