Top Returning Free Throw Shooters: Class of 2021

A supremely underrated skill to have in basketball is great free-throw shooting.  Analytics have told us more and more what should have been obvious long ago: converting from the line where nobody is able to defend your shot is one of the most valuable ways to get points.  Players who are able to get to the line regularly, and even more importantly convert those opportunities, have a big leg up.  Here are the rising seniors who shot 80% or better from the line. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="88440" first="Sammi" last="Sites"], Johnson Central- </strong>It’s no surprise to see Sites atop this list, as she is known as an elite outside shooter.  She used that prowess to shoot 83.4% on 181 attempts from the line, and impressive volume for someone who’s thought of as more of an outside player. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="212698" first="Cayson" last="Conner"], Marshall County- </strong>Another strong outside shooter, Conner combines her long-range shooting with more of an attacking mindset, a great combination for free throw success.  This resulted in 81% shooting on 153 attempts, numbers that are both top-notch. <strong>Kierston Smith, Raceland- </strong>The only player on this list who is not one of our top-ranked players in the state, Smith nonetheless had plenty of success from the line, going for 80.8% on 120 attempts. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="31855" first="Whitney" last="Caldwell"], Pineville- </strong>Someone who definitely is on our list of top-ranked players in the state, it’s no surprise that Caldwell’s elite scoring prowess extends to the free-throw line.  Overall she shot 80.5% on a great 169 attempts. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="154514" first="Aleigha" last="Mucker"], Breckinridge County- </strong>While most of the players on this list do most of their damage on the perimeter, Mucker plays largely inside, although she can certainly still shoot, resulting in 80.2% shooting on 111 attempts from the line. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="154508" first="Bailey" last="Rucker"], Boyd County- </strong>Another player with strong all-around scoring skills, Rucker combines strong outside shooting with plenty of drives inside, which makes for good free throw numbers.  Those numbers are 80.2% on 116 attempts, a nice combination of efficiency and volume. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="88428" first="Braylee" last="McMath"], Great Crossing- </strong>We finish with another of the top overall scorers in the state, as McMath has exhibited impressive efficiency combined with great volume in regards to her overall scoring.  That extends to the free-throw line, where she shot 80% on 110 attempts.
