1. Lake Highland Prep
LHP stays at number 1 with a couple of nice wins this week. The Highlanders made easy work of a talented MCDS squad, and they used a big second half to beat a top 10 Palm Bay team. They’ll have another tough test on Thursday against Timber Creek.
Week 2 Results: 5-0 Overall | W vs. Bishop Moore (70-26), W @ Miami Country Day (55-33), W vs. Palm Bay (51-37)
2. Montverde Academy
MVA jumps up 2 spots this week with three blowout wins over quality teams. This team impressed a lot of eyes this week, and they have 8 players that are averaging 6 or more points per game. Their schedule only gets harder from here, too.
Week 2 Results: 6-0 Overall | W @ Legacy Early College (73-31), W @ Seffner Christian (78-35), W @ Lakewood (58-24)
3. American Heritage (Plantation)
The Patriots stay in the same spot with a good win this week over Miami Christian. They will have a really fun matchup in December with Montverde to see how good their upgraded team is.
Week 2 Results: 3-0 Overall | W vs. Schoolhouse Prep (52-21), W vs. Miami Christian (51-37)
4. Blanche Ely
It’s hard to punish a team for not being able to play any games, but The Tigers are down 2 spots with no games played yet this season. They have a really strong lineup this year, and I am sure they are hungry to get on the floor. They will hopefully open up their season on Saturday against Miami Christian.
Week 2 Results: 0-0 Overall
5. Palm Bay
The Pirates took a tough loss to Lake Highland Prep after being up 7 at the half. They had two impressive wins prior to that loss, and they have a light schedule leading up to Christmas with the exception of St. Cloud. The best surprise of the season is freshman [player_tooltip player_id="219923" first="Kiara" last="Williams"] who is second in scoring (15.5ppg), first in rebounding (6.7 rpg), and tied for second in steals (2.5spg) on the team.
Week 2 Results: 5-1 Overall | W @ Cocoa (70-59), W @ West Orange (72-46), L vs. Lake Highland Prep (37-51)
6. Winter Haven
No one has kept within 25 points of Winter Haven so far, but Clearwater is hoping to change that narrative tonight. This team is very deep, and they will be tested in some tournaments coming up shortly.
Week 2 Results: 4-0 Overall | W vs. Eustis (75-49), W vs. Dr. Phillips (71-36), W vs. West Orange (91-62)
7. DME
DME played 3 good teams this week and came away with impressive wins in each game. The duo of [player_tooltip player_id="91653" first="Chloe" last="Kitts"] and [player_tooltip player_id="91487" first="Bella" last="Weary"] has proved to be too much, and the cast of 6 behind them have been consistently backing those two up.
Week 2 Results: 7-0 Overall | W vs. Lakeway Christian Academy (61-57), W vs. Parker (58-42), W vs. Raines (56-46)
8. Plant
The Panthers are doing what you would expect them to do: win. [player_tooltip player_id="91489" first="Kendal" last="Cheesman"] is averaging a double-double (19 ppg, 10.3 rpg) and [player_tooltip player_id="145094" first="Nyla" last="Jean"] is averaging 16.3 ppg herself. They lucked out against Braden River with a temporary injury to [player_tooltip player_id="91479" first="O’Mariah" last="Gordon"] in what would have been an exciting matchup, and they should have an easy week leading up to Brooks DeBartolo next weekend and Christmas hoops approaching us quickly.
Week 2 Results: 3-0 Overall | W @ Seffner Christian (76-55), W vs. Braden River (72-35)
9. Carrollwood Day
They do not have all of their games listed on MaxPreps, but they shouldn’t have much trouble with their current schedule until they run into some quality opponents during tournament play.
Week 2 Results: 2-0 Overall | No games last week
10. Central Pointe Christian Academy
This team is still somewhat of an unknown, but the hype seems to be real as they are 3-0 with a couple nice wins so far. They play a tough schedule this year, so we will get to see how they look against some of the best competition in the state shortly.
Week 2 Results: 3-0 Overall | No games last week
Next Five: Tampa Bay Tech (1-0), Bishop Kenny (4-1), Fort Myers (2-0), Timber Creek (2-0), Dunbar (5-0)
